The draw has been made for the Junior BJK Cup starting tomorrow, and though our team of Daniella Britton, Megan Knight and Annabel Wong, is not one of the favourites they at least appear to have a decent draw, in a round robin group with Japan, Brazil and Egypt. Japan are seeded 4 and GBR 7 The three other top seeds (Czechia, USA and Ukraine) all seem very strong on paper. Live streaming is available from 4 courts here and we take on Brazil tomorrow, who fortunately don't have their top player Nauhany Vitoria leme da silva (JWR7/WTA609) but nevertheless are probably the strongest unseeded nation
hadnt paid much attention til now, but good to see the event out of Asia or Eastern Europe and Africa given a chance to host a big event. Hope it goes well!
Both seeds enjoyed 3-0 successes, and we play the host nation tomorrow, which will probably be streamed as well. Live scores are also available here (will edit into the top post). All the other top 4 seeds won their openers 3-0
RR1
(7) GBR 3 Brazil 0
Megan Knight d. Nathalia Pontes Tourinho 6-2 6-3 Daniela Britton d. Maria Eduarda Carbone Dos Santos 6-4 7-6(4) Britton/Knight d. Carbone Dos Santos / Pontes Tourinho 6-1 6-7(5) [10-4]
3-0 wins for both Japan and GBR mean both nations qualify for the quarter-finals. Tomorrow's final round robin match is still potentially very important, as the winners will avoid the winners of any of the other groups in the quarters - and the three top seeds are on course to win their groups. Japan do though have three top 100 ranked players, led by Sakino Miyazawa, who impressed winning the Wimbledon U14 invitational event last year.
RR2
(7) GBR 3 Egypt 0
Megan Knight d. Karma Baher 6-2 6-1
Daniella Britton d. Kenzy Ahmad Abdelaziz 6-2 7-5
Knight/Wong d. Abdelaziz/Rami Jamal Al-Deen 6-3 6-1
The top 3 seeds duly won their groups and the constraints on the draw meant we were bound to draw the runner-up in Group 3 or 4. Romania may have been preferable, as their number 1 retired from her match today, but we ended up with Spain Their number 1 Paola Pinera Celorio is strong on clay and JWR14, so they may well need to win the second singles and doubles. The quarter-finals appear to be scheduled for Friday
