Week 43 - WTT W75 - Glasgow, Great Britain - Indoor Hard

Sophie Bekker wins and I make it that she'll now be ranked

Which, as paulisi says, is perfectly deserved

(Lambda's excellent page has her on one point, from Aldershot in summer. But maybe he's not had time to update it yet because I'm pretty sure she got another for qualifying in Birmingham two weeks ago)

It's refreshed as it has Birmingham and Glasgow to be added.

Jodie looks like a very late withdrawal.
There is one LL in the draw.

Hannah Klugman draws the top seed, who Jodie beat at Wrexham. However i thought Eva Vedder looked decent in that defeat,

Kate and Rosie have very similar style of play, both baseliners and very comfortable defensively.
I've seen Rosie several times play some very long matches and this looks like another.

 I don't agree smile

Kate has been coming to the net quite a bit - taking a lot of drive volleys out the air

And also really attacking the short ball

(Her serve is quite weak though, although not that unsurprising, given she's only 14)

Rosie, indeed, is more of a defensive, percentage player, moving it around

But not the same at all, I'd say - I didn't see the third set, and I'm not surprised that Rosie won, but the first two sets were very quite entrepreneurial tennis from the younger player, more intent, more of a plan of what she's trying to do on the court

The Spanish woman refuses to shake hands with Lois at the end of the match (and, having seen a fair chunk of that match, she may have a point)

But, net net, Lois scores an excellent victory and makes the main draw

What did Lois do wrong? I watched the last couple of games and couldn't see a problem.

Pity re Jodie withdrawing and Hannah's draw but just go for it again. Hannah would probably have been seeded based on the latest rankings but it is of course last Monday's rankings that are used.

I doubt if Eva Vedder would be too happy about drawing the winner of last week's W100 in R1.

I wonder why Alicia is not playing doubles? Is the final on Sunday as she is due to go to Angola next week for a W125

I think you've answered your own question. Lose early and she can get herself to Angola ASAP.

Jodie needs to be in Chennai next week as well hence maybe why she's withdrawn.
