Saw the sad news today that Elina has made the announcement she is separating from Gael. I don't usually go in for tittle tattle but the reason she gives seems...strange? Shes lost herself because of the war, and she wants to find herself again and needs to go her own way to do that?
Really?
I feel very sorry for Gael, feels to me there is more to this than meets the eye. But I wish them luck and hope they find happiness.
Whatever her reasons, it seems extremely sad (inexecusable, actually) that she didn't wait three weeks
He's had a wonderful career, for France, for himself, for the crowd
And he was going to retire officially at Bercy this year - in front of the Parisian crowd - a fitting end to a pretty illustruous time in tennis
And now she announces out of the blue (seemingly) that it's over, he's devestated, and has instantly quit tennis, can't play in front of people, can't give interviews, is in pieces
I'm not saying she's wrong to leave him - that is no doubt a very personal thing, with a lot going on behind the scenes
But I find it dreadful on her part not to have at least waited three or four weeks and allowed him his swansong

I agree - and it was only at the US Open they seemed all lovey dovey playing mixed doubles together. Just over a month ago. A lot happens in relationships and I understand that - but you can control certain things and it feels very self centred. It's me, not you, is a bit of a meme but this feels all about me and nothing about you
