I've always felt there was something 'off' about Harri but I put it down to translation, this confirms my feeling about him though. The times I've seen his blog posted on here I've on occasion felt it quite manipulative.
I can't quite put my finger on it but reading the above does not come as a massive surprise to me.

Thank you. Always felt the same, but the big love in on him here made me not want to say.

I think it is usually me who is the chief fan boy for Harri, sorry. I agree on this occasion that the prizemoney thing is a poor show and hadn't appreciated Luke and Sander miss out. It isnt a good look.

I think Harri's blog gets lost in translation a lot - it is written in "Finnish" (whatever the correct language term is) and translated through to English by Google and sometimes can appear a little off.

Not defending him at all for this - I also think he had hoped, once Henry decided to not play (I don't think Henry ever intended to play, it was a vehicle to allow Harri to repair and play if needed) Harri was weighing up whether he would get to world number one on his own (I think he would have with a first round win?) but decided he and Arnaldi had more chance of losing than winning, which would have actually dropped him to second. So I do agree, that appears to be quite manipulative.

He loses a little bit for me with this, in terms of my support, agreed.

WOLF - out of interest, is this you talking to Harri on his blog:

Hi Harri,
Can you clarify because you withdrew does that mean the alternates Johnson / Arends don't get any money for the first round?

Because I'm sorry I've been a fan of yours for a long time but this stinks, if so. I think you have got this one wrong as you had no intention of playing if your partner was Arnaldi.

Hi! I very much had the intention to play, otherwise I would not have traveled all the way to Shanghai. Unfortunately my lower back got worse in the last couple of days, and I didn't want to take a risk this time. I have taken too many risks with my health even just this year, Doha, Barcelona, US Open to name a few.

I agree it is unfortunate that the alternate team Arends/Jonhson, who are very nice guys, won't get 1st round Prize money. But it should still be a positive thing for them to be in the draw rather than not. And they now have a decent chance to win their first round too!

Hi,
I wasn't doubting you intended to play when you Flew out, merely at the time when you registered with Arnaldi.

However, I will say no more. Good luck for the rest of the season.

I understand, there are always two sides to a story. Comments are always welcome here nonetheless, and thank you for the good luck wishes!

Does Arnaldi also pick up this money? That also stinks - he was there anyway, simply had to put his name down with Harri and withdraw and he gets the cash? Or does it not work that way - it is just the originally entered player (Harri) who picks up the dosh?

Agree with all that none of this sits at all easily.

Im guessing when I run the next favourite tennis player voting (international version!) Harri won't be winning it this time!

As an aside, Henry and Luke share Calvin Bretton as a coach still, don't they?

Realise this is nothing to do with Henry, but presumably Calvin and Harri see a lot of each other in practice etc? And therefore Harri and Luke will see a fair bit of each other (and seem to be friends as well?) - could all be a little bit akward.

I doubt Harri needs the money - he should pay his share over to Luke and Sander if he has anything about him, if they lose in round one.

It is interesting he responded within minutes to your post - suspect he knows this doesn't look good and he wants limit any fall out

He's just digging a bigger hole imo.
I put my initial feelings down to lost in translation but if someone shows you who they are, pay attention.

ETA. If his back has been playing up all season then knowing Henry wouldn't be playing Shanghai would have been the perfect opportunity to also have a break.

I'm comfortable calling him a manipulative liar.

I noticed one of the Finnish tennis fans who follow Harri's blog has found their way here (a new member called Fin) - it may well be Harri? If they see this, firstly welcome and, if it is Harri, indeed welcome. And please feel free to post something or comment - you will see this particular thread has a number of comments on the Shanghai situation! It would be good to get the Finnish perspective! And, indeed, the Harri perspective!

I commented on Harri's blog and got an in depth response from Harri to it, as did Wolf. Be keen to see if it is Harri who has taken a look here and good to get his views!
