Yes, JonH - you are right - but there are three pairs close behind them so are likely to be overtaken again unless they pull off a shock against Mertens and Shnaider

That said, the pairs including Gleason and Routliffe have tough last 16 battles that they'd do well to win, and need more than one win to top Liv this week; Errani and Paolini look more likely to win their next match (play Katie B and partner) but still need more wins to get above Liv and Tereza. Feels to me like Liv and Tereza could still be in the top 9 at the end of this week.
Wuhan could be a big week for all contenders as the last W1000 event.
L16:- Katie Boulter (GB) / Yulia Starodubtseva (UKR) CR689 (496+193) [ALT] lost to Sara Errani (ITA) / Jasmine Paolini (ITA) CR39 (13+26) [8] 5-7 1-6
That win puts Errani and Paolini back in the mix for the race, just 64 points behind Liv and Tereza
Are you sure? Maybe LTR is wrong, but it shows them moving to 2026 points with their win and reaching the last 8, still 249 behind Liv and Tereza, and before Liv and Tereza themselves play. Could be wrong of course. Are you using OER for your points?
Liv and Tereza lose the first set 1-6. Not a true reflection of a close and entertaining match as several games went to a deciding point.
Mertens is in great form and put out Gauff in straight sets today.
