RE: Week 36 - WTT W50 - Evora, Portugal - Hard

Sofia lost the first set 7-5 . Why is Sofia not picked for the BJK Cup team? She is far more competive against Kayla Cross than .Mika.

Good stuff by Sofia.

Re BJK Cup, I have had quite a few comments re the squad including Mika''s position but if anyone was coming in I wouldn't be thinking Sofia. IMO still far too early at this stage but all the best to her to continue her great progress.

That said, I see she has won the 2nd set vs Cross and if she was to go on and win the tournament she'd be clearly in form and up to GB #9 ahead of Mimi and Hannah with not currenly a huge number of other options, if still too soon for Sonay and Aloia after their injury issues.

It's so disheartening for her and her ranking could slip again because she has quite a number of points to defend over the next 6 weeks

Hopefully, retiring from this match will enable Swan to be back on court soon enough. Yesterday's match was very attritional, and it was just not enough time for Katie to recover. It's about managing the problem as best as possible and taking all the positives, because Swan is still competing and enjoying the challenge and on her day, she can give absolutely anyone a tough match.

OK so it is too soon for Sofia. Well what about bringing in Heather Watson. At least Heather has won some matches recently.

Yes, I have mentioned Heather in dispatches. And you may even be winning me over a bit re Sofia at least for the squad    - I had added to my previous post before I saw your latest one.

It seems to me that Stojsavljevic really benefitted from the BJKCup environment at the qualifiers against Australia, having the week to practice and getting advice in the team setting. I think they should stick with Mika, if it's possible.

Gets a tad too defensive and loses the advantage

BUT - gets it back again after a REALLY long game

That game was exhausting to watch let alone for the ladies plying, poor Cross looked like she needed a lie down after every point

Cross breaks back but Sofia breaks again in what I think was her 5th BP in a 20 point game. Quite a scrap.

*6-5

Looked at the point by point after the match and it was indeed a 20 point game and 5 BPs.

Lordy !!!!!

What a super second effort at serving for it

Played some good points, won some, lost one, and Cross just looked as though she'd had enough

That last game took the stuffing out of her

I particulalry liked Sofia's first point - as though, THIS time, I'm going to have no regrets

Went for a super backhand winner - the last game she'd have crossed that

Well done !
