Week 35 - WTT W50 Leiria, Portugal - Hard

I'm significantly more concerned about our singles options than doubles at this point although I would prefer Maia to Jodie as a partner to Harriet assuming Jodie won't be playing singles

I think Anne K has success ( or gets lucky ) with some team selections and then stays too loyal to players in changing circumstances.

What about drafting in Heather Watson?

I think Anne 'gets given strong advice' and follows it

Meanwhile, Sofia does a complete houdini act

Served for the first set - ended up in a TB - 4-6 down

Hits a clean winner return backhand DLT to save the first SP

Then is on the end of a bit of string for the second one, no way she should have got back in the point - but she did, and won it

And then ends up winning the set 7-6(7)

I think Anne K's luck might have run out  with this tie.The Czechs must be spolt for choice and not sure how many top class teams the Czechs have available.

Helped by a DF at 7-7 but fought back brilliantly and is a break up early in the second set too

Served for it twice and in both service games Sofia has been incredibly timid and made unforced errors on almost every point

A very nice win for Sofia

She plays a rather defensive game, but it's agile and deft

And it's actually more offensive, IMO, than it used to be when she started on the pro tour, I think she knows she has to take the ball on at times, but it doesn't come naturally
