https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/tennis/qualifier-samuel-flies-british-flag-at-us-open-after-norrie-crashes-out/ar-AA2beKJM?ctsrc=dgst&ocid=edgntpruby&pc=U531&cvid=6a953820eda64a42b3f6197bff14e68f&cvpid=15f0c9042ee645eb90a17190ff5a806f&uxmode=ruby&ei=82

A very nice article in the Telegraph (not pay-walled) about Toby and his run (and Cam)

Fun bits about his parents 'unexpectedly' having to extend their hotel stay every day smile

And also, highlights:

"The win ensures that, when the next set of ATP rankings are published in a fortnights time, Samuel will be a top-100 player for the first time. It also caps the fastest rise of any player on the ATP ladder over the last 20 months. Samuels ranking had dropped to No 1,785 in the world at the start of 2025, which was when he made his return from the same sort of long-term bone-bruising issue in his serving elbow that has also afflicted both Jack Draper and Arthur Fery. Before that, he had struggled through just three professional matches in the whole of 2024."

And a shout out to Wilson !!!

I was thinking, Oh, this [injury] could be the end of my career, Samuel explained matter-of-factly after his qualifying run.......But I switched to a Wilson racket, and I started playing again, and eventually it went away, so maybe thats the secret.

Court 12 - Harriet 1st on, Jake 2nd on ( resuming at a break down in the first set, 3-4* )

So Otto Virtanen is in qualis - beats Jack PJ by the skin of his teeth in QR2 - then loses by giving a walkover to Dmitrov in FQR

And, now, here he is - popped up again - in the MD - in as a LL - and winning against a seed.....

I guess losing is losing, either playing or giving a walkover, but still seems strange

The seed being Rublev (23).  The Finn replaced Marin Cilic & is now two sets up against Rublev (two tie-breaks).

And Rublev eventually gets the better of Virtanen in five (6-7(5) 6-7(0) 6-0 6-2 7-6(10-5) in three hours & 42 minutes).

Landuluce was 5-2 up in the fourth, the match was practically over and done

And then, somehow, Jake won FIVE games on the trot - to take the fourth 7-5

Utterly mad

Harry played pretty well but Darderi was just too solid, and powerful, for him in that first set - every time Harry has a little chance Darderi just snuffed it out

2-6

Well this is exciting. Jake definitely 'in the pink' right now.

Amazing turnaround from Jake to win 10 of 11 games, is it?! Brilliant - did Landaluce run out of gas?
