Not for lack of effort - for comments made to umpire

So, Arthur Fery has been fined $5,000 for lac of effort in his match, I read ????

EDIT: guess they won't be doing that to Shelton and Alcaraz

Water under the bridge for Arthur, I'm sure...  wink

QF:  (8) Ben Shelton (USA) WR 9 defeated (2) Carlos Alcaraz (ESP) WR 3 by 6-7(5) 6-1 6-3 1-6 7-6(10-7) in only four hours & 28 minutes!

Thanks - sorry - it was part of an article about the woman who got fined for lack of effort and it just mentioned other fines, so I assumed they were all for the same thing

My bad

And that's far better, anyway - no one minds about fines for telling the umpire he's/she's messed up biggrin

Unfortunately this all means that Zverev will very, very likely add his second slam to his tally on Sunday night

Shelton was 0-17 against top 3 players before today so I would go with Zverev I think

Top 3 players are not beating Ben Shelton for the 18th time in a row

It was an audible obscenity - I can totally relate to a few of those in my time!

A lengthy analysis by Jonathan Jurejko of the effects of late-night finishes at the USO.

And Shelton won an entertainment fest with Tiafoe to make the final and plays Zverev. Will be hoping for a US home title in that one, for sure.

FINAL

(1) Alexander Zverev (GER) beat (8) Ben Shelton (USA) by 6-3 7-6(2) 5-7 6-2

Zverev's 2nd Slam title, indeed 2nd of the year after the French Open.

A very un-engaging final

Strangely quiet and rather lacklustre from both

The main highlight was Zverev not realising he'd won - wins MP - muted response from the crowd, Zverev gets the balls to send them bac down to Shelton, the umpire is announcing quietly 'game, set and match' and Zverev is about to walk over to the deuce side when his team get his attention - 'you've won !'
