Fearnley is so frustrating. He was more than matching Etcheverry in final 2 sets but is serving a DF every service game and putting himself under so much pressure.
Whatever people think of him, Zverev is a fighter. Had two five set matches, both finishing at something like 1.30am, played 4 hours 50 and 4 hours 30.
We might've lost all our Brits at the 2nd round in both men's and women's but it's felt like a really positive slam for us. 5 brits won a round, 3 qualified and none of those playing were named Draper, Raducanu or Kartal. Samuel and Fearnley get back into the top 100, Jones gets closer again and Dart also nudges herself up.
Especially on the men's side, we might not have a bunch of top stars but we have a big depth, and many who can push on up even more. Pretty exciting times!

Agreed - and having 5 top 100 players in Arthur, Cam, Jan, Toby and Jake is great to see.
Jack D is of course a top 100 and beyond level player, so let's call it 6! That is decent
Just reported on Sky Sports that Casper Ruud has withdrawn. As the order of play had already been published I assume this is too late for Arthur, but great for a lucky loser.
And that lucky loser is another Arthur, Géa, who was the q1 beaten in straight sets (3 & 1) by the American q32, Nishesh Basavareddy.
But while Basavareddy crashed out to fellow qualifier, Tristan Schoolkate, in four sets in the first round, Géa has thrived, reaching the last 32 by beating Juan Manuel Cerúndolo (WR 45) in five & Svajda (WR 80) in four. He will play the local WC, Michael Zheng (WR 107), for a place in the last 16.
For the people that like to take a swipe at doubles for low attendances in the second week, please take at look at this Michelsen-Etcheverry 4th round match. On a weekend day on Grandstand Court in a match which involves an American player the stands looks about a 10th full at best, and I believe it's a court which is a mixture of ticketed and ground passers that are allowed in.

Not good.
Interesting that this one L16 singles match is on Grandstand with Henry & Harri's L32 doubles match having opened proceedings on Armstrong.

And he won that match in five, so will face Botic Van de Zandschulp in the last 16!
Finding it hard to see past a Alcaraz and Zverev final, Alcaraz has come back firing.
Hope Blockx can get through Khachanov, and would like to see Tiafoe win tonight against Michelsen. Can't see VdZ touching Zverev , sadly, although Shelton may push Alcaraz tonight
Well he should be in the QF's but could not get over the line
Yes. van de Zandschulp beat Gea from 2 sets down, 3-6 6-7(0) 7-6(7) 7-6(3) 6-4, with Arthur having a MP on serve at *6-5 in the 3rd set TB ( backhand volley forced error according to the US Open site point by point text ) and serving for the match at *5-4 in games in the 4th set.
The match lasted 5 hours 13 minutes ( the longest match in US Open history is Dan Evans' 5 hour 35 minutes R1 win vs Khachanov in 2024 )
