Luiz and matos won the two masters 1000 hardcourt events - possibly came here as favourites. Lost first round to two American wild cards.
And those WCs, Brandon Carpico & Nikita Samuel Filin (CR 1842 [1103+739]), have just beaten Marcelo Melo & John Peers (CR 132 [56+76]) in three sets (3-6 7-6(0) 6-4) to reach the last 16, where they'll face Salisbury & Ram if they beat Arribage & Olivetti later...
So Joe & Rajeev do meet these WCs in the L16. It looks a very good draw, especially at this stage, but ...
Carpico and Filin are in college at The Ohio State University so their rankings can be ignored. They won the collegiate wild card play-offs which they got entry to by being runners-up at last season's NCAAs. They finished last season as the No 6 ranked doubles team with a 37-6 record. One of those 6 loses was to their teammates our Alex Okonkwo partnered with Alex Bernard last October.

Thanks Lambda, I hadn't checked anything but kind of thought they might well be college. Certainly as you say re their rankings, but still not a CV that would have given any sort of expectation of what they have achieved here already. Time to calm yourselves, lads!
The schedule for today is a bit weird. All 8 L16 matches are 4th and 5th on their respective courts. The women's doubles QF's are similarly on later. So I look forward to not watching a lot of it.

The juniors have been going about their business at a very decent rate.
Court 5 has already completed its 3 junior matches so all looks in place for Joe & Rajeev at not before 9 om BST followed by Julian & Lloyd. So pretty imminent.
The 3rd match on Court 12 is well into the 2nd set and being a junior doubles they would play a MTB for a 3rd set. So Neal & Christian look good to go at not before 10 pm BST followed by Henry & Harri.
