You are doing a great job and I thank you. I just know that for most of the year Henman has still played like a top 30 player. I think he will have a great week at Queens this week. It is crazy to see Henman in the same league as Mahut. Compare how many games each of them have won on the ATP tour this year. Henman is by far the better player, but due to the poor second half of 2005 his ranking is low. It will turn around soon.
If Henman loses in the next round I'd hope he'd go to Nottingham, if he wins he will be ready for Wimbledon.
As I type, Step & Mahut are just about to start a third set. May it go to a long tie breaker which ends with Mahut winning 28-26.....
The Lead Story is that tomorrow's 3rd round match between Tim & Nicolas Mahut is the PLAY OFF for the Top 70. Whoever wins, and they're both playing very well, will be up there in the 60s, whoever loses is stuck in the 70s.......So first pin into Mahut!
Other News:
Behind Tim, Jonas Bjorkman and Mardy Fish both lost, while Jiri Vanek won at the Lugano Challenger.
Ahead of Tim Florian Mayer showed what a R16 place can do for your ranking at this level, jumping six places after his impressive win over Jarko Niemenen. Wesley Moodie lost
Tomorrow,If Tim wins, he can jump a maximum of six places to 69th. However, if Andreas Seppi wins, he'll be limited to 70th. So minimum 5 places gained!
If Tim loses Mahut goes past, of course. However Andrei Pavel, playing Robin Soderling, would also climb to just one point behind if he wins. Maximum 1 place lost. So that's the second pin into Pavel(edit).
Also playing tomorrow: Richard Gasquet plays the Fed, Marat Safin plays Olivier Rochus, and Potito Starace and Marcos Daniel both play in Lugano
If Tim loses Mahut goes past, of course. However Andrei Pavel, playing Robin Soderling, would also climb to just one point behind if he wins. Maximum 1 place lost. So that's the second pin into Safin.
Er - am I being thick? Why Safin?
My wax model of Mahut will look like a hedgehog when I am finished.
Well, the Romanian Pins didn't have the effectiveness of good old British sharpened steel
Pavel's out.
Tim's competitors have now changed, as he's moved up in the world
As of completing his match against Mahut, Tim is now 69th in the World, on 570 points. His nearest threat is Andreas Seppi, who is 15 points behind on 555, and is playing Tommy Haas at Halle this evening. If he wins, he'll be level on points with Tim, and will overtake (on my table at least) by alphabetical order.
Also a threat are: Potito Starace, in Lugano, who needs to win three more rounds and get to the final to overtake. Marat Safin, who needs to reach the final in Halle. and Yeu-Tsuoo Wang, who needs the Queens title.
If Tim beats Tursanov or Wang tomorrow, he'll climb at least another six places. Possibly eight if Gasquet can't get past Federer in the next hour or so, and Seppi doesn't win both his next two matches.
Wonderful day for Tim. He's in the Quarter- finals, he's the world number 69, and all his competitors but three are out!
They fell like nine-pins: Gasquet, Seppi, Starace, Mahut, Pavel, Safin!
The only other who played today was Marcos Daniel, in Lugano. But neither he nor anyone else behind Tim can get near him this week!
Ahead of him, there's only Florian Mayer still playing (at Halle, against Vliegen tomorrow), which means he's got quite a clear run if he can beat Dmitri tomorrow. If he does, he goes to WR 62. If he beats Hewitt (or Nadal?) then he's 56th or 57th, depending on how Mayer does. If he then beats Roddick (or Blake, Gonzales or Monfils), he'll be 50th unless Mayer wins Halle.
No Pins required! ( except maybe a little one for Mayer?)
First Post updated. And what a pleasure it was to post a table that starts at 50, and ends at 80, rather than starting at 60 and ending at 90
Madeline's pin for Florian Mayer worked well - Andy's competitor Kristof Vliegen did for him. Off the bottom of the table now (), Marcos Daniel lost in Lugano, and Jiri Vanek doesn't play until this evening, also in Lugano.
But we're starting to get clear of the players in the Challenger Tournaments now, and almost back in the big leagues
So, with Mayer out of the way, the road is clear ahead for Tim. All he has to worry about is the small matter of Hewitt, and then Roddick or Blake!
Beating Hewitt, and making the final takes Tim up to 56th. Winning Queens for the first time would take him back into the top 50 - at 50th! and I could go back to only having to do the one table again!!!
