Week 32 – ITF W35 - Aldershot, Great Britain - Hard

Side note, my word Bandecchi is so loud even when not hitting the ball hard or running for it

Emily App had a good chance in the middle of that second set - on a run of games, with break points - but hit the ball too short on those break points, and ended up losing 3-6 4-6

A respectable score against the second seed but still a shame she didn't manage to put pressure for a third set, at least

Jodie won quite easily, as epxected

Mimi, who was playing better as the match went on, also loses in straight sets against top seed Baldecchi

Sure posted elsewhere already, but Mimi is heading to Duke for university in the autumn. Feels like a good call (as it is for almost all players). Good luck Mimi!

Mimi wins the prize for travelling the furthest distance to get away from being coached by JB.

Enjoyed watching the end of both doubles matches

Well done to Sav and Dani - beating the far better ranked Naiktha/Emily App duo

Sav shows why you should bet on US college players for doubles - very solid - BUT actually right at the end, she tightened up a bit, played too conservatively, and it was Dani who was calm, but hitting through the ball more

Freya and Jodie were both dressed in solid black, dark-haired, bronzed - they looked like some Superhero Duo in some Netflix series (probably the bad guys )

They won pretty easily

ADD: Dani will be getting a WTA doubles ranking - our first adult WTA ranking for any 2010-born player, I believe

I'm definitely thinking Jodie has almost earnt herself a nomination for player of the month but a win tomorrow would seal it for me. Such good timing for a confidence boost with points available in US qualies

I know we're still in the first set but how good is it to see Jodie playing well and looking fit again! smile

Edit: Adding that she appears to have really improved her serve particularly it's reliability, either that or today is just a very good serving day

Bandecchi takes the first set 7-2 in the tie break, Jodie had a great chance to break at 5-5 but couldn't take it, small margins

A super set of tennis by Jodie taking it 6-3, was dominant on serve and took her 1 opportunity to break whereas in the first set she was 1 for 11 on break points
