Boys: 2026 U14 World Junior Finals, Prostejov, Czech Republic, clay (Week 31)

The British team nominated for the World Juniors is the European Summer Cup winning squad of Liam Sharkey, Oskar Laskowski and Max Hodkinson, though it remains to be seen whether liam has recovered from whatever caused him to retire from the German Super Category event.  They are in a round robin group with USA, Egypt and Czechia . The USA should provide strong opposition -  they won the event in 2024 and were finalists last year.

Another strong performance to see off Egypt easily today. With the USA beating Czechia it means that both nations are through to the quarter-finals and play for seeding tomorrow

Oskar and Liam remained imperious, to enable the group to be won. The boys face Bulgaria in the quarter-finals, who finished second in a strong group behind Switzerland, with top seeds Japan (including Les Petits As champion Lyoma Hotelier ) eliminated. The match is scheduled for the streamed Centre Court

Winning Round Robin matches easily can mean being less battle hardened when facing stronger opposition, and that may have happened today. First defeats for both Oskar and Liam confines the British team to play-offs for minor places. Both the teams that progressed from Bulgaria's group (which also included top seeds Japan, who finished behind Switzerland and Bulgaria by the narrowest of margins) are through to the semis

A comfortable win means the British team plays for 5th tomorrow against Slovakia, who they beat in the final of the Copa Del Sol (European Summer Cup for under 14s) just a month ago. Switzerland (with the TE1 and the European Champion) take on Brazil in the final.
