I mean - at this level those two openers are about as good youd hope to get, Id say.

Yes, you are right. Unfortunately Rybakina will probably be lying in wait after that.

Looks like Harriet and Heather have got into qualifying which is amazing they just have to make the most of it
Heather plays Blinkova
Harriet plays Sloane Stephens

Four alternates into qualifying - three because players are still playing elsewhere.

Someone on tennisforum queried why there was only one round of qualies and the answer given was that they don't have enough courts for a bigger qualifying draw in the time available. I see on google maps that there is the main show court and six outside courts. 16 women's matches on four courts so I am a bit doubtful.

A bit of a fightback by Heather, but she loses 2-6 5-7

Harriet lost 6-3 0-6 2-6.

There were a couple of multi deuce games in the 2nd and 3 in the third.

Harriet had 21 winners to Stephens 17.

Theres 11 courts plus the Stadium. 4 courts are allocated match courts, 7 practice courts and 1 court to a retail tent. For a 96 draw they're required to have a minimum of 8 practice courts but 4 can be off-site if available with the same surface.

Thought Harriet would win that...

Heather must have forgotten to withdraw from the W100 in Landesville as she appears in the qualifying draw and as having given a walkover !

Gosh Katie is just diabolical when she's a heavy favourite. Utterly hopeless to 3-5* down, breaks back, has four set points at *6-5, hits errors on them all (the second will go in highlights reels as a great point but her backhand in the net to end it was club level footwork).

6-7(3)
