Week 30 - WTA500 - Washington DC, USA - Hard

Heather has to serve it out now!

Yeah the forehand got a bit pushy on that second match point. Always been her tendency to start steering the ball when she gets tight really hasn't it?

J puts her return in the net,

H puts two routine shots well long....

Super point from Hev at 30-30 though

J stepped 2 metres inside the court for Hev's second serve - and clocked it easily for a return winner

It was great but what was that second serve on match point?! Paretja was standing half way towards the service line waiting to smack it away easily.

An utter dearth of first serves, and Julieta having been told (I'm sure) to move well in and attack the second bore fruit for the youngster, and drew a DF from Hev at the end

Now 5-5

First time she'd done that all set

Utterly sure she'd been told to

And now Julieta leads 6-5

As above, it was the 5-3 return game that was the real problem - Hev had her on the ropes - she knew serving for it would be a problem - it was her moment - and she went AWOL

Still time, of course .....

It's a shame it's so unsurprising really. Sigh

Pareja did a good job on the first 5-3* match point and then Heather just fell apart.

And there we have the somewhat inevitable defeat from the jaws of victory, sadly a story throughout Heathers career
