I vote most months. The months I miss are usually because I've forgotten. Have the numbers gone down since you started a dedicated area for POM?

That is a good question and yes. definitely. Whether that is a linkage, I don't know. I suspect it is. I always felt that the board would be better with it hidden away as people who don't like it can ignore it.
But yes. Whether that means we should put it back out into the open forum again is also worthy of further discussion. I will capture that also.
PS we have got more votes now than in the June PoM vote, haha.
Maybe people will be persuaded to stick with it!?!
To my mind, so we should, you are reaching beyond the non reguiar PoM voters. You want to be getting votes here from these regulars ( and it appears quite a number of them haven't voted here yet ) and actually more interestingly, the majority that clearly don't ( and I would hope a lot more of them will come here and vote and maybe give some thoughts ). You should be looking for quite a bit higher overall vote yet for a fuller consultation, including anyone who really wants it to die for say the amount they perceive it effects the priority of other threads ( something I have read before while not agreeing myself ).
And whether you can persuade the non regulars to regularly take part in the PoM voting process, beyond saying they currently don't, is another matter ...

Yeah, but it's Wimby fortnight, and I have noticed over the years that more people use the forum in the televised season (especially this fortnight) than the rest of the year.

Yes, all of the above. Definitely. We have 100 people visit this forum daily , I believe, so getting over 100 to have their say would be great. By rights, only 40 or so people should end up in one of the tick box options at the top of the poll, the other 60 or so lower down. And with some thoughts!!
There are very few months when I have missed voting. I enjoy seeing the nominations and the recognition of achievement that the players in the marginal areas of tennis ie wheelchair, junior and college tennis get in the process.
I sometimes think the voting process could be a day longer.
What I don't enjoy, Jon, is the repetitive announcements of when the end of the nomination month is and cajoling of people to nominate or vote, although I can see why it is necessary and you do always do it in the nicest possible way.
In summary, I think the monthly competitions are a valuable part of this forum and I do hope that you get more people voting as a result of this discussion. The effort and enthusiasm you put into running it is very much appreciated Jon and I would miss it enormously were you to stop.

Thanks Canda - definitely self aware and trying to improve a little day by day! Seriously, I get that and know others dislike it also (people should be glad they arent married to me! on several fronts!). Im going to keep on trying to tone that side (reminding people) down during the nominations and the vote, and limit it. I shouldnt need to remind people as often as i do, nominations reminders could be limited to once a week, for sure.
And in the voting, I can probably take a lead from Indy this time, and be more restrained in my approach!

The trouble is that if people e.g. me, look at recent posts, then if you don't remind, it just slips out of sight...
For me finding out about people I had never heard of is a big plus for PoM/PoS. I also vote for keeping everyone together not having split men, women, children, various abilities separated. It gives it all a pleasing air of chaos some months.

Thanks to all those whove had a vote and in particular those who have commented.
My main aim is to understand if there is anything that can be done to make the whole PoM thing more appealing to folks. Whether it is something you get involved in every month or now and then, or not at all but might do in the future, or avoid like the plague, I dont think it is going away just yet.
But the votes have declined dramatically this year and if it is going to stay around, making it more relevant and appealing is something we should aspire to.
So please do have a vote and, if you are willing, make a comment if you have feedback or thoughts. Or if youve voted already and would now like to comment, that would be welcome.
