I think for us the most important thing is he has played a tie in a Davis Cup match for GB meaning that even if he did switch back to being French (v unliklely?!) he wont be eligible to represent France in any team events. Well done Leon Smith getting Arthur to play a tie before his big "arrival" onto the world scene!

I honestly don't think that would matter

He's had every chance to play for France (and, indeed, did so very briefly as a kiddie) but has no interest and has no reason to have any interest

It is remarkable, with by all appearances so much better a tennis system and culture, and so many players, but such a lack of Slam success when they want it so much.

And very funny  biggrin

Yes - made me laugh too  biggrin

agreed - as I said v unlikely but nice to know even in the v unlikely event it was considered it would make it less attractive to the french knowing he couldn't pay for them in davis cup etc

Fery is on first tomorrow. Bit of a surprise with Novak/Sinner having had an extra days rest.

There's a lengthy profile of Arthur in today's Times, but only subscribers will be able to read it in full (& the archive site is still not playing ball!  furious).  It adds no more to the reason why he now plays for GBR than the Beeb extract.  It includes quotes from Johanna Konta, the Bryan brothers & Jamie Delgado.  It also refers to his younger brother & sister, the former, it seems, also resident in the UK:

His younger brother, Maxime, is a runner at this year's Championships, bringing rackets for players.  Fery's younger sister, Albane, went to university in the US, at Wake Forest in North Carolina, and was a college-level distance runner. Maxime is studying at Imperial College London, where he plays tennis and football.

That said, there are a couple of bad screw-ups:

Relatively unknown outside the intimate world of British tennis a fortnight ago, the victory has elevated Fury into tennis superstardom.

and in the same paragraph:

Plagued by an elbow injury last year, he began the tournament ranked No 461 in the world. In the live rankings he has risen to No 36.

the latter despite an earlier - accurate - statement that "Despite sitting 104 places below his opponent, Flavio Cobolli, in the world rankings..."  Sloppy!  no

Thanks for your replies Stircrazy. I guess what I was wondering about was a background reason e.g. was the French system not as good/supportive, did he fall out with anyone etc Rather than, he feels British.

I think that's better myself, if they matches go long they might not finish (fingers crossed). I also wonder if the bigger audience is in the US and it's a better time for them.

The reason suggested on the radio was that the Djokovic/Sinner match was of more interest to people in the late afternoon/evening than the Zverev/Fery match. To whom?

Not sure if it's been mentioned but Arthur confirmed that he got his nose cauterised about 4 days ago

I hope I'm wrong but I can't see Arthur beating Zverev no matter what time they play.

Never say never. Nothing to lose from Arthurs point of view. I think it will be down to how Zverev serves and whether Arthur can get a racquet on it.

No, I can't see it either

But there are lots of things going on in the world that I would have said I couldn't - and I'd have been wrong

Zverev gained a lot of confidence winning Paris and, to me, looks in top form from what Ive seen. Hes lost the fewest sets of the semifinalists and is 5-0 in tie breaks. Tbf all 4 have good tie break records this tournie, Arthur is 5-1 for example, but Zverev just looks strong

As you say Jon, its the confidence and belief Zverev seems to be carrying after the FO, if Fery can win the first set then maybe Zverev starts to feel the pressure but if Zverev takes the first i fancy it would be done in 3
