Feels to me his strengths are : speed, tennis IQ, extremely good technique on all shots meaning they dont break down under pressure, ability to « lock down » when needed, incredible focus and calmness when under pressure - seems to play his best when most needed e.g. hitting aces in tie breaks
Intrigued to see what his schedule will be after this - he will probably get into all ATP events he wants to for the next 12 months or so. His schedule seems clear at the moment. Washington entry list is out, so whether he would aim to get a wildcard there or start the next week? Is it Canada after that? Lists don't seem to be out for that yet, so his new ranking should get him in there directly and to Cinci as well (and the USO, of course).
Probably needs a wise set of heads around him to not overplay and take all of this in, but we probably shouldn't be surprised if there is a little let down after this is over.

I think that's a really good summary as to why Arthur's doing so well - add all of that up and you get one really good all round player.
In addition, US college serves as a great apprenticeship and is where Arthur's honed his inherent skill set - you get to become well rounded while combining good tennis, good academics (Stanford will expect their student athletes to perform to a good level here too) in a very social environment - no lonely hot housing here.

Canada lists are out and obviously Arthur not on them. Must be a wildcard posibility tho.

I think this lock down part is so interesting - as said above, watching Arthur's MTB against Bergs, and the end of the first and second sets yesterday, and Djoko's MTB against Felix - the play was very similar, the choices of shot, the look in their eyes, the walk, it was just - as you say - lock down
The French press are obviously going into overdrive
So much written about 'why's he playing for GB?????'
All quite funny really - 'Frenchman feels English ' headlines
With the FFT being disappointed or resigned or feeling blue
One example saying (summary): 'yeah, the British are obviously well happy that Arthur has flown the Union Jack right into the semis, But France is obviously pretty frustrated that they've missed the chance of a Grand Slam semifinalist. Haven't had one since 2016, with Monfils in the US. And although the administrative rules mean Arthur has the right to change back, and represent France, there's nothing at all to indicate that he's any intention of ever doing so'
Thanks everyone re why Arthur's been doing so well. So being consistently good at everything is beating being stunning at one or two things, but not super consistently or as mentally tough.
I guess in my mind I was comparing it to a Nadal/Federer USO final I recall seeing, and being stunned at their every shot, which I'm not with pretty much any of Arthur's and yet he's a Wimbledon semi finalist!
I'm looking forward to Friday, I honesty can't see how he'll beat Zverev, but I hope that I'm pleasantly surprised.

Pure focus and intelligence - a lethal combo so far.
Thanks for the French response, it's really interesting. I know he did play for France then swapped, but why did he swap?

Similar in some respects to Emma. Born in Canada but plays for GB.I suppose it cuts both ways.Naomi Osaka, born and trained in US but plays for Japan. I can understand the French angst given their lack of Slam success over recent years, despite having so many players on the tour.
It is remarkable, with by all appearances so much better a tennis system and culture, and so many players, but such a lack of Slam success when they want it so much.

It may be worth your while having a look at his dedicated thread in the Individual player threads section, Helen. This is an extract from a BBC article to which I posted a link last week after he beat Virtanen:
Fery briefly represented France when he was about 10 before starting to play for Britain shortly after.
After that, he says, there was "no question" he would go on to represent Britain in the professional ranks.
"By that point, there was really no decision to make. I was living here, I was training at the National Tennis Centre. I was in the system here," he said.
"I feel completely British now. Maybe 10 years ago if you'd asked me the question, it would be a bit different. Now I feel very British at heart."
There's a lengthy profile of Arthur in today's Times, but only subscribers will be able to read it in full (& the archive site is still not playing ball! ). It adds no more to the reason why he now plays for GBR than the Beeb extract. It includes quotes from Johanna Konta, the Bryan brothers & Jamie Delgado. It also refers to his younger brother & sister, the former, it seems, also resident in the UK:
His younger brother, Maxime, is a runner at this year's Championships, bringing rackets for players. Fery's younger sister, Albane, went to university in the US, at Wake Forest in North Carolina, and was a college-level distance runner. Maxime is studying at Imperial College London, where he plays tennis and football.
That said, there are a couple of bad screw-ups:
Relatively unknown outside the intimate world of British tennis a fortnight ago, the victory has elevated Fury into tennis superstardom.
and in the same paragraph:
Plagued by an elbow injury last year, he began the tournament ranked No 461 in the world. In the live rankings he has risen to No 36.
the latter despite an earlier - accurate - statement that "Despite sitting 104 places below his opponent, Flavio Cobolli, in the world rankings..." Sloppy!
I think for us the most important thing is he has played a tie in a Davis Cup match for GB meaning that even if he did switch back to being French (v unliklely?!) he wont be eligible to represent France in any team events. Well done Leon Smith getting Arthur to play a tie before his big "arrival" onto the world scene!
