He's got a few points dropping off before the USO, so will need three or four good tour wins. Not out of the question though !  biggrin

Or if he just goes on and wins the entire thing this week, he won't have to worry about any of that

Just a joy to watch. Almost felt sorry for Cobolli that it was such a beat down in the 3rd. Great that it wasnt a mega long match though for Ferys sake.

That's 3 of the 4 Australian Open semi finalists with just Fery in place of some chap Alcaraz.

Showing my tennis ignorance here..

Arthur looks solid and is obviously mentally tough, but he doesn't look impressive - so what is it that's allowing him to beat these great players?

Seems even more unreal when you look at it like that!

At what point does this become more incredible than Emmas run in US Open?
Winning here, Final or the title?

He didnt have to start in qualies. Also Goran won it on a wildcard. however I cannot believe he is on the cusp of a semi final place. If you had said that when we kicked off last week after that abysmal start, I would have taken it ..if I knew Arthur was coming!

I can't remember the details, but didn't Goran get a wild card, having been much higher ranked and coming back from injury or something.  I can't remember his run to the semi-final being unexpected..

Semis are better than finals IMO, although I never got to the semis. I went to the Becker v Lendl final in 1986, I think it was, and although the occasion was special, the match was a damp squib. Semis you get a second bite and to have a Brit as well! Jealous! Enjoy!

Yes, it's funny, isn't it? He's most certainly one of those players where the total is greater than the sum of the parts

Apart from a cracking down the line backhand, he doesn't have a killer shot - so many other players are more powerful

And his second serve can be quie tame

But he reminded me of Djokovic today (and did so even more in the MTB against Bergs)

It's that intensity, mobilty, focus, making the ball, making it difficult for the opponent, taking time away by refusing to retreat, etc etc

Very wearing to play against

And today his team had done a great job - he came out like a perfect red balloon biggrin, as the FFT psychologist used to tell the kids in my time

he seems to have really good touch and feel for the ball as well, a little Evo like and also court craft/intelligence. He isnt worried about mixing it up and trying different things although with his serve he consistently served to almost the same spot each time. His first serve is surprisingly speedy as well, he banging in 125-128 consistently. Not massive but consistently strong and to the same place, putting the other guy under pressure.

Just absolutely phenomenal for Arthur. It feels like his whole run has featured such composure and the ability to execute under pressure. So happy for him to be living his dream!
