Weeks 26 & 27 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - main draw (singles)

That feels like a win for all of us on here who follow the lesser known Brits week in and week out.
After football last night I need a day off!

As everyone's said, just an amazing effort

Huge congrats to him

And huge congrats to Jérome Bernard, his coach - you could see the plan

That point in the MTB, when Arthur was 5-6 down, and he dug that really really low volley out and then claqued the next one, just changed the whole momentum -Dimitrov looked a spent man

What's so nice for many of us is that we've all seen Arthur play live, at pretty lowly events, with two men and a dog. So you feel you 'know' him a bit - his parents are very nice too, very 'French' in the best possible way , I had a good chat with them several years ago, before Arthur went to college

Arthur has basically single-handedly saved British tennis this summer - the LTA should give him a medal

single-handedly saved British tennis this summer.

Yes that's about right. Two matches overcoming players with superior skill-sets (taken right to the wire) and now every chance of doing it again in the quarters.

 Agreed.  Extra exciting for us!

I felt aggrieved when the Scottish commentator (Jamie Murray, I think?) used the derogatory term 'blind patriotism' to describe the crowd, because I suppose having Brits to support is the basis of this board.  (Although we know far more about those players than a Wimbledon crowd.)

If it was Jamie Murray or an ex- tennis player it was a stupid thing to say as most sports depend for much of their funding on people attending sporting events not only to see the sport but also to support their country or countrymen and women.

Yes - it's not 'blind' patriotism

And it was Tim, I think, who said something about Arthur playing well but 'Dimitrov is a class above'

Which is just poor journalism, Tim

Great result and great mental attitude throughout.

The Scottish commentator was Andrew Cotter, along with Tim Henman and McEnroe, but Jamie Murray had a 'spot' as well - summarising at the end of a set or something like that.

Am I right in thinking that Arthurs new ranking next week will get him on the entry lists for Montreal Masters?
