Gutted for Toby. Heartbreaking because he knows he could have won and he played really well but got to also give Mensik credit for digging the result out. Excited to see how Toby progresses in the next twelve months - has to be a good chance he won't need a wildcard in 2027.

Toby didn't bottle it; he didn't choke
To my mind, there's very little he can beat himself up over
Of course there's a shot here or there where he'll have regrets - a couple of slightly conservative moments he'll look back on
Looked in trouble at 4-5 0*-30 but played solidly to win the next 4 points, then break with a bit of help from Kopriva, nervously went down 0-40 when serving for the set, but rallied to take the second 7-5

But you can never, ever play 100% perfect tennis
And he really surpassed himself
I totally agree. He played above the level he's shown previously which is great and bodes well for the future. When I said he could have won, I just meant he had played well enough to win really rather than he'd bottled it in any way.

Jan had a stroke of luck when Kopriva injured himself slightly in the fourth game of the first set (hip or thigh) & needed an MTO, but he capitalised fully. Didn't drop his service once, though he staved off a number of break points, & served 18 aces, the most ever (for him) in a match! Tiafoe (17) or Atmane in the last 64.
Just shows that all this idea of playing grass court warm-ups is a load of nonsense
I don't feel I 'know' Jan very well, but I've seen him play live a couple of times, and he always seems polite, professional and someone you want to support
Great serving
And showing also that players reach their prime later
The stats put it at 27, and people tend not to believe it
