Week 25 - The Championships, Wimbledon - Qualifying - grass

It's done by ranking - and drawn

From the latest edition of the Grand Slam rulebook:-

"Lucky Losers shall be selected based on the rankings used for the determination of qualifying seedings as follows:
The order of the four (4) highest ranked players shall be randomly drawn, thereafter the order shall follow the players' rankings, unless
there are more than two (2) main draw withdrawals at the time the Qualifying competition is finished in which case the size of the random
draw will be the number of withdrawals plus two (2)."

So based on Heather's ranking she will be well down the order - and I can't be bothered to work it out.

7 seeds lost in the FQR so Heather won't be a LL.
So disppointing for her, she battled so hard yesterday and was so thrilled to win that match but I do think it took it out of her. She was one of the last off yesterday and that match was an emotional rollercoaster.
I'd like to see her get back in the top 100, with some smart scheduling there's no reason why she shouldn't do so.

Shes a fave of mine as well. When Ive watched her always feel she connects with the crowd.

Yes I am also a Heather fan. Hoping she goes well in the doubles and mixed,  should she be there.

Yep, it's not just Emma that has had her issues.

I tried this again using AI and got a similar result to last year.

With 9 British women in a 128player draw, there is roughly a 31% chance of getting at least one allBritish firstround match.

Heather hasn't been in the Top 100 for four years, frankly I very much doubt she will ever be again.

When was the last time 2 British  women players met in the 1st round of Wimbledon? I can remember Katie vHarriet but that wasnt in the 1st round. Its a few years ago now but I think Jo played  Heather in the 1st round of US open and before that Naomi beat Laura in the 1st round.Checked up on this and Jo vHeather was 2020 and Naomi v Laura was 2016.Naomi was a direct entry and Laura qualified beating Tatjana Maria in the final round of qualifying.

It was a good start, said Dunne. She missed quite a lot and made it a bit easier for me and I didnt give her much, so I think that's why the first set went quite quickly.

She then started to play a bit better, locked in a bit more, and I got a little nervous and maybe had a bit of negative self-talk."

Katy's review of her match, including said 'negative self-talk'
