Week 24 - LTA Wimbledon Wild Card Play-Offs - Aorangi Park, Wimbledon, Great Britain - Grass

If Savannah wins this its a massive justification for the 4 playoff spots in my opinion

Savannah beats Naiktha 6-2 in the decider, I dont know if that says more about how strong the NCAA is or the relative level of ITF tournaments?

I think it probably says more about how little Naiktha has been playing to be honest. She's only had one tournament since March when she retired and really struggled in Ilkley.

I've updated the results with the last match.

Brooke beating Sofia and Indi beating Vic were the two results that I wasn't expecting, although I'm not really surprised.
Big match tomorrow is Emily v Ella. I'm expecting Millie to win, and I hope Katy can keep going. As for Savannah and Esther - much closer.

I wish Emily and Ella had been different halves :(

All big money matches - these players barely never play a match for £20k

Esther, Katy, Ella, Brooke is my selection based on nothing but gut feel!

I'll match that but raise you Savannah.

All matches went as I expected today. I wouldn't have Indi beating Vic a few weeks ago but she seems to have turned a corner recently and the win reflects recent form of both of them. Not surprised at Brooke beating Sofia. I would have been more surprised if the result was the other way around.

I never get the Esther Adeshina love ins on here. I am sure she is a tremendous young person and of a lovely nature but I find her tennis a diabolical spectacle.

Not quite the same words (!) but you'll see i said something along the same lines on the last page :)

Yes CD, I know that you have said similar before about Esther's style. FWIW In fact any "loves in" have totally passed me by. Anyway she has a shot now at a Q WC against Savannah D-M though I see conflicting thoughts as to who is going to win that one.

Yes, I don't remember Esther being a favourite on here, not at all - I remember people saying she played extremely well in one match, which was almost certainy true, but I didn't see that match ! smile

I've only seen 5 mins of Savannah and wasn't a fan of her after those 5 mins either (but 5 mins is not much of a foundation!). I know Lambda rates her, but they obviously follow US-based players more and was also talking a fair bit about Sofia, who lost yesterday.

Either way, it's a huge match for them, and all the players today

From my count, Millie, Ella, Katy and Emily have obviously all played Wimbly qualis before

The other 4, no

But it's a huge match for all, no matter

So Naiktha's play currently isn't matching her ranking? Feels like there's a few for whom that's the case

The last of the four matches will be starting shortly.

Katy takes the first set 6-2 dropping just 4 points on serve.
Ella leads Emily 3-2* - some long games, and looking very close.
