Week 24 - WTA250 - Nottingham, Great Britain - Grass

If Lambda is incandescent and in danger of boiling over about an issue, then you know someone has seriously been extracting the urine. Shame on Raducanu if this chronology of events is indeed correct.

It's not even injury related. Just a change of schedule. So why did she ask for a WC then? Presumably it was an ask last week since she was meant to be in Berlin.

Yeah, that was why I assumed she would definitely be playing, why ask for the wildcard. Disappointing for the Notts fans.

Will she play Eastbourne or Bad Homborg now instead? Going in to Wimbledon with one event, when in her interview yesterday she talked about it all about getting matches under your belt, would seem contradictory

She did end up going all the way to the Sunday final after also playing twice on Saturday. Seems to me reasonable, indeed maybe sensible, for her to then decide to take the week off and potentially play next week.

Which was entirely foreseeable on Friday when she presumably asked for it. And she knew she had played twice on Saturday and was in the final on Sunday morning before the draw was done. She could have withdrawn then and the WC go to someone else (most likely Jodie or Heather). She has no excuse for denying someone else an opportunity with the scarce opportunities that already exist.

 Yes, I agree

It's not the withdrawal

Or the asking for a WC and then withdrawing (when you do better than expected)

All fine

But, given no sudden injury, just informing them very late, and thereby denying a different GB player, and also the GB crowd of cheering said player, is a bit nasty - put it this way, it's hardly a hanging offence but it doesn't endear you

There is something about Emma R that I just can't warm to. The way she spoke to Richardson, pretty much confirms for me what an entitled brat she is. From the constant changing of coaches, to the cold hand shake for vekic. She is talented but I'm just never going to be a fan. I'm sure many on here are, but for me even Harriet Dart has more charm than Raducanu

And I'm sure Judy Murray would back you every inch of the way smile

Vekic (live ranked 32) plays Eala (33).
So unless Siniakova goes on a run in Berlin, or Sakkari rips up Nottingham, Raducanu is probably safe as a low seed at Wimbledon.

I wonder if the Berlin draw for Eala Vekic was a contributing factor as they're the only two who are playing this week who can feasibly overtake her.

So I think that Emma must have applied for the WC when only in R16 at Queens, (up until Saturday morning) - and decided that Berlin was too much for her.

She wasnt to know that she would have to play 3 more matches, with 2 1/2 of them while nursing a potentially serious injury.

The worst thing she could decide to do is to play Notts, aggravate the injury and rule herself out of not just Wimbledon, but also for months afterwards.

Baptiste and Mboko are out of Wimbledon, so Emma is effectively in the #29 seed spot. There are though a bunch of players close behind Emma who are all playing in Berlin - eg Samsonova at WR37 is only 53 points behind Emma.

Samsonova is one of 6 players who can overtake her, but she's losing 150 points this week so it's tough.

If she's live ranked 29 and only one of Eala and Vekic can pass her, that leaves her needing 4 of 5 to pass her to drop out of the seeds so she's definitely safe!

Just going to say there's an argument that being a very low seed is worse than being unseeded in terms of your scheduled draw pathway. Unseeded you can land in a section with middling seeds you think you've got a good shot at beating to get through to round 3/4. As a low seed you are guaranteed to face a top 5 player very early. Of course unseeded you could draw them in round 1!

On the evidence of the FO, seeds can fall all over the place and to anyone! It will be what it will be! Just take your chances.

Sakkari lost in the 1st round Nottingham.
