Week 23 - WTA125 - Ilkley, Great Britain - Grass

Lulu beginning to show her capabilities now and takes the second set 6-2. Ella is not out of it though.

Ella lost 2-6 in the third

She didn't do anything wrong in the third - Lulu's not ranked what she is for nothing

Possibly a few regrets about the start of the second - that was her moment to really extinguish hope

But a lot easier said than done

Play was interrupted for another Squall passing over. Sun shining now and courts being prepared for probably few minutes of play before the next one comes over

Starting to worry about how they're going to complete the fixtures because there's still R1s outstanding and the forecast looks bad through to the weekend

They'll use the indoor courts, no?

Is that something they can do given it's a grass tournament and would mean a surface swap? (forgive my ignorance)

Nottingham used indoor courts nearly all week when Charles Broom won the mens

Just announced no play before 1.30

Yes, they can do that if they have to

And, as Jon says, with the vagaries of British weather, it's happened quite a lot

Which, as you say, is a shame, given people love/expect/are prepared for grass - but what can you do?

Is Court 5 suffering from the rain again? Feel for Katie still having to wait around

I think so. Some very noisy court driers still being used on it
