I think she has one from a W35 for 4 points so you she would need to win the FQR to get a ranking with the 6 points that gives.

However I am not an expert here so may have missed something.

Yes, 4 points from Nottingham W35 (checked on OER)

Ridiculous, IMO, that a young girl who has only played one adult match in her life now has to play against a top-100 player

If only the LTA would host some slightly less rich grass events, our girls could actually get some practice in

What sort of practice is it when nearly all the players are (completely understandably) losing in the first round ?

Its a joke and a wildcard into a W35 would be a great prize in itself to a junior who hasnt played adult events. To give it for a 125 seems like an insult to those players who have done well in the lower adult events and really deserve the opportunity to play a W125. I think its a terrible decision.

I am all for making the nationals more important but I think theyve gone too far with the W125 and a Wimbledon qualifier slot. Wildcards for J300, Junior Wimbledon and a lower adult event are huge prizes and would be reason enough to play it. The higher aduly events on top seem too much.

Always nice when you don't mind who wins

Ella def. Ranah 6-2 6-4

Which seemed a fair score from the bits I saw

Well done to Ella - main draw of a WTA 125, here we come

Messaged Ella on Insta last night and said we could do with another win. Well done Ella. 2 wins against higher ranked players. Hope she has a kind main draw.

Just to add today's rankings, for those who are fussy, as they've come out for all events this week and Ranah - for instance - is 50 points lower:

QR1:- Edie GRIFFITHS (GBR) UNR [QWC] def Naiktha BAINS (GBR) WR 420 [10] 2-6 7-6(9) 7-5

FQR:- Ella MCDONALD (GBR) WR 538 def Ranah STOIBER (GBR) WR 503 6-2 6-4

FQR:- Harmony TAN (FRA) WR 215 [6] def Emily APPLETON (GBR) WR 418 [11] 7-5 6-3

*****

FQR:- Vendula VALDMANNOVA (CZE) WR 199 [3] v Edie GRIFFITHS (GBR) UNR [QWC]

 Yes

Although the bigger joke, really, is the fact that there aren't any W35 / W50 / W75 / W100s - no blinkin' ITF events at all

We say it every year but it's disgraceful on the part of the LTA

So, I like the Wimbledon qualis wildcard for the 18U national winner - I think it adds a real prestige, a real drama, and it's a one-off

But to lead into that there should be a nice W50 MD wildcard (max)

And - preferably - another lowish ITF event where a wildcard (qualis or MD) would be discretionary

I'm not sure this is entirely down to the LTA, a WC into a W125 would be perfectly acceptable if the winner of the U18 had actually been 18. An 18 year old would almost certainly have had some experience in lower level itfs. Most of the drama is because Dani is only 15 but that's not the LTA's fault. She won it fair and square and it's a great opportunity for her.

Thanks for the rankings update CD - I have had great trouble accessing the WTA rankings today - the page refused to scroll past the top 50, and the player search didn't seem to want to work at all today.

I did the main draw, but not the qualifying, as all but a few matches had been completed

It's down to the LTA not having anything less than a W 125

Which is a far bigger problem in general, IMO, than this year's situation with Dani - although the two are somewhat related

I expect Dani will probably do fine, btw, she's very grounded, no matter what happens

It's just a shame that there's such a dearth of playable events for most of the players, Dani included

It is entirely the LTA's fault. They are the ones that decided there were different rules for Mika and Hannah that they didnt have to play the Junior Nationals for grass season WCs that applied to every other U18.

You're welcome smile - the site was hanging for me, this morning, but seems to have come alive now
