Very interesting the way wildcards have been split with Katie, Alicia and Mimi getting main draw here while Heather, Lily, Hannah and Jodie get Queens QWC. Also I do not understand the logic of giving a main draw WC to a 15 y/o when theres Allegra who cant compete in quails coz she has a final tomorrow and shes only 18. Also any idea why Marni isnt there?

Dani won an Ilkley MD WC by winning the U18 Nationals.

Ridiculous, IMO, that a young girl who has only played one adult match in her life now has to play against a top-100 player

If only the LTA would host some slightly less rich grass events, our girls could actually get some practice in

What sort of practice is it when nearly all the players are (completely understandably) losing in the first round ?

 It does seem daft!

Though as for Dani, as above a MD WC entry here was one 'prize' for winning the U18 Nationsls.

Wow that is quite a prize and well done to Dani for earning it! I just hope she uses it as fuel to try to get the top level rather than feeling dispirited if its as one sided as could be feared. I agree with CD that if we had a grass W50 or something like that it would be a much better entry point

Yes, no problem with how Dani got the wildcard, upping the value of nationals is great

But the net effect of where it leaves her, given the system, is the issue

(I still resent the bods having upgraded Surbiton, let alone the rage I feel at them having cancelled it altogether )

Of course, I now exepct Golubic to be a real kind lady, and hit the ball into the net, over the back fence, and to watch the cute dog in the stands instead of running for the drop shot

Allez, Dani !

Weather today looks like it might be ok for the start through until mid afternoon. It didnt rain overnight and is dry now but not sure if they cover all courts? I think they possibly do, in which case we might be ok for a reasonable start

A profile of Mimi on the BBC - they got their Ilkley qualies prediction wrong !

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/articles/cy82l5dl5lwo

Will they get their Roehampton one wrong also?

I'd imagine so. The Ilkley one is quite bad - and I am assuming it was actually made before the MD WCs were known!

Also you can't play both Eastbourne and Wimbly qualies. Never mind, aye.

Interested to see Ella on court

She showed good grass promise as a youngster

Then stalled

And seems to have kicked on at college

She's one of my 'must watch' players today (but I've got a lot )

I fancy Ella and Brooke could cause a surprise today and I wouldnt be shocked if Tegan beats Emily App

Ella lost the first set 6-1

But she had her chances early on - simple things - like being 40-15 up, and then making two daft UEs, so putting herself under pressure and ended up getting broken

Tegan has indeed taken the first set - Emily App looking nervy, knowing she 'should' win

Millie lost the first set 6-4

With some bizarre umpiring

And a good fightback from a poor start

Ive been following Ella for a while now and she really seemed to love her college tennis. She should come good again just a matter of time. Maybe this year. Didnt she get to number 8 in juniors? Leftie so sometimes takes a bit longer to find their best game.

Sounds familiar. Ella caused herself problems in college matches with UEs when in control of points and numerous faults serving.

 Yes.

And by keeping it a little tighter early on, she put the pressure back on her opponent, freed herself up a bit, and took the second set 6-1
