I said it before on another thread I think, but only in England.  That is such a shame that Lee didn't get in on merit as I'd have loved to see Fleming/Auckland get a fair shake.  This really is crazy.  Flip is a big draw and so I kinda understand, but the other two.....

At the moment Wayne Arthurs is scheduled to play Queen's 1st round qualifying against Alan Mackin this morning and has a semi-final of the Surbiton tournament later today. Is that allowed? if not, will Mackin be given a new ( and lower ranked!) opponent?

I have just seen that Ivo Karlovic has to qualify. Now, if any foreign player deserved a wildcard to this event, surely Ivo did, after his brilliant run here to the final last year, rather than the three useless gumps that got them?

I saw that and thought exactly the same, if they wanted to give wildcards out foreign players who deserve it then Karlovic MUST be top of the list. I hope he qualifies even though that would mean Parmer didn't.

Brits in QD :

Alan Mackin v Wayne Arthurs (Unsure as he is also playing Surbiton today ?)

Andy Kennaugh v Amer Delic

A Parmar v F Niemeyer

R Bloomfield v Dancevic(6)

Martin Lee v Lars Burgsmuller

All hard ties....we will do well to get any through I think....sorry for being realistic

It is allowed but it means that if Arthurs beats Mackin he'll have to play 2 matches in one afternoon and he'll be at a big disadvantage for his Surbiton semi as he'd have to go straight from the car onto the court.

Hopefully Arthurs doesn't fancy the prospect of 2 matches in an afternoon and gives Mackin an easy ride

ATP order of play: http://www.atptennis.com/en/common/TrackIt.asp?file=http://www.atptennis.com/posting/2006/311/op.pdf

The live scoreboard is up !!

Mackin-Arthurs and Kennaugh-Delic are warming up. Unfortunately it appears that the scoreboard won't be covering Parmar-Niemeyer

David, Parmar is on the same court as Kennaugh after they finish so we should get live scores...Martin Lee and Bloomers are out on court 6 so they might not get live scores !

Looking at the qualies draw:

Parmar and Lee are our best chance of having a Brit through to qualies rd2.

Lee has already beaten Burgsmuller this year, on clay in 3 sets in the Telde Challenger - a fantastic win as clay is Burgsmuller's best surface ! Lee has a 3-1 career head-to-head lead over Burgsmuller, one of those victories was on grass in rd1 of ATP Newport in 2001 when Martin reached the final !! Burgsmuller also lost in rd1 of Surbiton to Parmar last week. I reckon Martin will win in straight sets, his tricky leftie serve, accurate volleys, ability to mix it up with serve-volley and staying back plus his big forehand will give him a strong edge on grass.

Arvind has played the veteran Canadian Frederic Niemeyer once before, in the 2001 Nottingham grass court Challenger. Arvind won 6-1, 6-4, hopefully a repeat will occur today ! Arvind has plenty of good memories of Queens, having qualified at least twice and also in 2000 he famously defeated the defending champion Scott Draper in rd1 and in rd2 was a set and a break up against Pete Sampras before losing 6-4 in the 3rd. Arvind looked to be in really good form last week in Surbiton, hopefully that will continue this week. Niemeyer is ranked 198 and qualified for Surbiton and beat compatriot Frank Dancevic in rd1 before losing to Mardy Fish in straights in rd2.

Queens have rewarded Andy Kennaugh with a qualies wc as he won the junior event last year. I can't see any further than a straight sets defeat to Boggo's Surbiton conqueror, the giant American Amer Delic but I sincerely hope that I'm wrong. It'll be a fantastic experience for Andy and if he gives Delic a close match it'll give him a big boost going into the Raynes Park wc playoff later this week.

Bloomers has the toughest rd1 match against 6th seed frank Dancevic ranked 127. However, Dancevic lost in rd1 of Surbiton last week and so he'll still be a little rusty on the grass. Richard has the weapons to cause an upset, if his big serve fires today he has a chance. Dancevic has lost his last 3 matches.

Looking ahead further:

If Mackin somehow finds a way past Arthurs then he probably has the uneviable task of facing top seed Fernando Verdasco in rd2.

If Arvind wins he'll probably face last year's finalist Ivo Karlovic in rd2. They've played twice before, and all 6 sets have gone to tiebreaks !!! Karlovic won 7-6, 6-7, 7-6 in Bristol in 2001 and Arvind won 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 in Surbiton in 2002.

Martin Lee will probably face 3rd seed Michael Llodra in rd2 if he wins

If Richard upsets Dancevic then he has a good chance of qualifying. Aussie Chris Guccione would probably be the main danger
