So Arthur the sole survivor of the second round encounters.

The tie-break obviously took the sting out of Bolt!

QF:  Arthur Féry WR 154 vs (5) Rinky Hijikata (AUS) WR 98

I watched  most of that  final set and Alex looked very lacklustre.  Or had Arthur worn him down .. either way, he looked the superior player

Never seen him play before (which sounds terrible but I watch very little tennis at all, just follow scores and news largely), but watching early stages of Arthur's match. Was surprised that he isnt very powerful, really, first serve coming in around 110-115 mph, he threw one that he missed at 121. Second serve 85-90 mph and not much on it to bother the opponent.

His game seems very neat and stylish - seems typically French? - which is great and it is obviously serving him well moving up, but does he have a weapon he can use as he moves up the rankings.

I have literally watched 4 games of tennis and my judgement may be off, but will have the game to sustain a top 100 rank if he gets there. Rinky and he seem to play similar games, not totally unlike Dan (obv double handed backhand) in terms of needing to move his opponent around and outsmart them, rather than be able to push them around.

Suspect he and Hijikata will be a close match, they seem well matched style and power wise. But fancy Rinky to win in two sets.

Per other posts - what do I know? Arthur takes the opener. Good stuff.

Arthur was 3-1 down but came back to force a first tiebreak which he's just taken 9-7 on his third set point

He could perhaps have been a touch more aggressive in the tie-break, but still did well to take it by 9-7!  wink  Crowd a bit on the sparse side, but still making plenty of noise.

Massive win for Arthur. That puts him in a good place to be seeded for qualifying (in the very unlikely event he doesn't get a wildcard).

Very good   biggrin

Like last year, Arthur continues to show how his liking for the green stuff ( in spite of yes being very far from the biggest or most powetful ) can overcome much higher ranked opponents.
