Week 22 - ATP Challenger 125 - Lexus Open - Birmingham (Edgbaston Priory) (grass)

With Billy and Jake both terribly out of form, I hope those slam dunk wildcards for them both don't end up being completely wasted. They will get them, obviously, but don't hold out hope they will do much with them

Billy may, of course, make me eat humble pie now

A & Y actually served for the second set at 5-3.

QF:  Martin Damm & Shintaro Mochizuki (USA/JPN) UNR (347+0) vs Ben Jones & Joshua Paris CR 272 (167+105)

A chance for our two?  Damm & Mochizuki have just beaten Hijikata & McDonald by 5 & 2...  Match, in theory, to be played later this afternoon.

Definitely a chance:  Damm & Mochizuki have given them a walkover into the semi!  wink

Arthur is into a 3rd set vs Bolt, 6-4 6-7(5)

He did save 2 SPs at *4-5 15-40 but then lost the TB, having indeed been 4-0* up.

I just caught the TB from 4-3* and the last few points weren't pretty and he tossed his racquet away at the conclusion.

Regroup, Arthur !

He has regrouped - 5-2 ahead with a break

L16:  Arthur Féry WR 154 defeated Alex Bolt (AUS) WR 152 by 6-4 6-7(5) 6-3  (despite the dip in the second set TB documented above!)

The tie-break obviously took the sting out of Bolt!

*****

QF:  Arthur Féry WR 154 vs (5) Rinky Hijikata (AUS) WR 98

Well done Arthur, good result - disappointing day for the Bolt/Swan household though.

As with Mika earlier, very impressed at Arthur's ability to reset there in the decider as he'll have known he should have been in the locker room an hour ago. 4-0 up in the breaker, Bolt was shaking his head and looked down and out. Then a few sloppy points and it was one set apiece.

Very, very good win, and in my opinion, even better than it looks on ranking as Bolt is particularly dangerous on grass with his lefty serve and general nous on the surface. I was having a chat with a member of the Tennis Australia media team last year and we both agreed that Bolt was perennially underranked.

Rinky is a tricky nuggety opponent but Arthur's playing well.

Horrible end to a competitive set there from Harry. 2 double faults in that last game.
