Nice win albeit against a pretty awful Sweeny
Yes. As above, Sweeny has just turned up (for the cheque, presumably) and no preparation on clay
The bookies had Jay as the overwhelming favourite
But it was nice to see Jay dispose of him, intelligently, not trying to outplay him, or trip himself up. Just decent percentage tennis. Get the job done sort of tennis.
Jay losing a load of points this week. Be interesting to see what happens with him re Wimbledon wildcards.
Yes, his Skopje title, and the 70 points, roll off
But he then went and lost in R1 of all the tournaments after that, right up till Wimbly
So he's got some room to add some good points over the next few weeks - as well as here, of course, which he didn't play last year - and he has a very decent chance in QR2 too

QR2: (qWC) Thomas Faurel (FRA) WR 382 (CH = 375 two weeks ago) vs Jay Clarke WR 199
Any thoughts on Faurel, CD?
I don't know a lot about him
He's only 20 and very much a clay courter
Or, at least, he thinks he is - and he won a J500 on clay as a junior a couple of years ago (and got up to #15 in juniors)
But he's been playing clay for the last few months, in the US and in Europe (and North Africa)
And it's been a nightmare - he's barely won a match
I didn't see any of today's match and I can understand why the FFT gave him a wildcard
But, in my mind, there's absolutely nothing for Jay to be scared of - I expect Jay to be favourite - I've never beena mega fan of Jay's style of tennis but I would make him favourite
