Week 20 - Grand Slam - Roland Garros, Paris, France - Clay

Well it's the hope that kills you I guess.

So much better in the second set but not enough.
Emma needs to play more matches. I'd like to see ask for a wild card for Birmingham. Get some games under her belt.

The Beeb have managed to get a report on Emma's loss up before a report on Fran's win. Not even a mention of Fran in the report on Emma. Why am I not surprised?

And still the same at 7.30pm, a couple of hours later. Any of us could write a report of Fran's match. It's ridiculous that  it's all about one British player, win or lose. And really should be a separate article, not a few lines add on at the end.

Great result for Fran after last week's disappointment, hopefully she can get back into the Top 100 in time for the US Open.

Disappointing for Emma but having missed most of the clay court season perhaps not a huge surprise, will do her good to get back on the Grass ASAP.

This morning on Breakfast different story! First Toby making his debut, then Frans victory then Emma. Someone got it right! Not on the BBC main site where guess what the main story is. ERs woes and her chances on grass. Am I bothered? No. There are more deserving players to follow now.

There was an article on the BBC yesterday. It did get posted after Emmas but it was there.

Also not usre why there is a need to knock one Woman while building up another.

It's not Emma's fault the BBC chose to ignore Frans result initally. There's some real nastiness on this forum aimed at Emma.

I read a lot of people knocking the BBC about the reporting, no one knocking Emma for it

I did read people criticising Emma's tennis - but that's not nastiness, that's a valid opinion - the first set, and a lot of the second set, was just awful

It's been going on a few months. I just chose today to highlight it.

OK, but I'm saying I haven't seen it - where were people criticising Emma for the BBC's reporting?

I don't think that is what happened, but:

If one player appears to make bad decisions, and/ or plays badly, should they be immune from criticism? Is praise the only permitted sentiment?

Should Women be immune from criticism because "sexism"?

Why shouldn't a tennis player - of either gender - be "knocked" for poor performances and (apparently) poor decisions?

I think that there is more "sexism" inherent in the BBCs method of reporting (young attractive female first, anyone else later or not at all) than there is in this forum's conversation; and I think this forum's discussion of the situation was more a rebuke of the BBC than a "knock" on ms Raducanu.

I support Emma but I was a little upset that Fran didnt get the coverage she deserved. I think we need to take a big dose of realism with Emma and maybe dial down our expectations until she can demonstrate some form. It isnt a direct criticism or getting at one woman, it is just a fact.  I do hope she can land a title though. A wta125 would be fine, anything to get her confidence back.

Katie broken to love serving for the set at *5-3

Takes her third set point of a long game to break for 6-4. Good contest this. I like the American's game and general attitude.
