It looks like Josh Paris and Trey Hilderbrand will get into the draw. There are two free ALT spots and after five ALTs got in today they are second next in line. So as long as they sign in tomorrow they should be in.
One of the open spots is against Marcus/Jakub, so assuming there aren't more withdrawals before play begins it looks like they'll play one of Josh/Trey or Chandrasekar/Yuzuki.
If I understand it right, Kittay & Ram won their R1 men's doubles match this morning, by walkover, because they couldn't find any ALTs?
Presumably they'd used up all the ALTs and you can't add any more after the sign-in date?
But if the ball boy and his brother had signed in a couple of days ago, they'd have got a R1 doubles match ?
I've always thought this was a very exploitable system.
All it takes is to win one futures doubles match to get a ranking, you just need to buddy up with some good, maybe go somewhere a bit remote to get in (in futures if there is spaces in the draw you are in). If you are a half decent club player you might be able to semi hold up an end while your good partner tees off a bit, does some kamacasse intercepts and with a generous draw it could be possible you nab a win.
Then you have a ranking, and are OK to enter some big tournaments I believe. Quite often there first round are walkovers in Masters, and once in a while a Grand Slam. You might need a like minded person or again a good friend to team up with.
If I was rich and had time on my hands to sit around waiting for opportunities I would totally try for this.
The majority of left handers play on the deuce side these days. It means when they come across at the net in return games both players are then hitting forehand volleys. Well in the professional game they are doing it at least. It hasn't quite filtered down to club level I think.
Especially as doubles is a bit of a cr*p-shoot anyway
And given you can play doubles a lot longer, I think your cunning plan makes a lot of sense
Back in the old days you needed to reach a SF in futures doubles to get points, so two wins including probably beating seeds. To me this made a bit more sense I don't know why they changed it. It's not much of an achievement now.
