Weeks 16 & 17 - ATP Masters 1000 - Madrid, Spain (clay) - DOUBLES

Looks like H and H services got them through.

Harri's blog which he normally does later after the match is usually quite informative on how and where things went well or didn't go so well

Henry and Hari look really lack lustre today against the French pair. Are they ok/healthy?

From Harris blog, this may explain the lethargy

Towards evening, however, I felt a little worse again, and although I slept quite well, at 1 am I woke up with severe stomach cramps, and after that I didn't get much sleep. By sunrise I had vomited everything out and it was difficult from then on. We headed to the fields around noon, and I got more medicine for my stomach problems there before we hit the pitches very lightly. After that I ate a little rice, but otherwise I went on a liquid diet that day until it was time for our match at around 4:30.

Good to see Luke and Jan get another win and reach the last 8 of a Masters - progress?

Well maybe overall progress back towards their capabilities, given they reached the Australian Open SF just 3 months ago, beating Arevalo & Pavic CR 14 in the QF. Though this latest win was clearly actually very tight and not particularly impressive.

I don't know why their results have have been so wayward since the Aus Open but I honestly have thought that rather too much was being made of these, such as I think I even read that maybe they should be considering the future of their partnership.

Anyway yes, good to see them in the QF.

I think Luke and Jan certainly have the potential, a grand slam semi shows that - and also dont know what has held them back these past few months. Neal and Christian have similarly had a great AO result ( a title!) and similarly struggled since.

Both pairs may just be starting to turn it around again, I hope so. Not sure if it was me who questioned their pairing, might have been, I think SC may have done as well. FWIW, I think Luke and Jan certainly should stick it through past the Wimbledon and USO and see where things are then after the quicker courts

Henry and Harri have had a really solid season where the AO early departure was the outlier around a good number of decent results, but Julian and Lloyd have struggled to get into third gear and I see had an early departure here as well. Hopefully J and L will find the grass to their liking in time to defend their title and all those points.

I see Joe has just lost, not expecting too much from him right now, it is v early days and probably not intended to be a long term pairing with Cabral. Hopefully Joe will find the right partner for himself for the grass and US hard court swing.
