Hamish had a 6-0 lead at one point in the second set!
Pity he didn't shake hands at that point really!
I was once umpiring a group of kids' matches in France (as a group, sort of overseeing, rather than specifically umpiring each one).
There were no scoreboards, but I'd clocked that the boys' match on the far court looked as though it would be quite quick and the 'good' player (call him Léo) had won the first set and was up in the second.
So I was bit surprised to find it was still going on after spending 20 mins with finishing up and launching a different match.
And one lad announced the score as 2-1
So I asked a parent and it went like this:
Me: So they're into a 3rd set? 2-1 in the third?
him: Yes
Me: So Léo lost the second? What was the score?
him: 6-1 - but Léo won it 6-1, not lost it
Me: But that means he's won two sets
him: Yes
Me: So the match is over
him: No, they thought they'd carry on, that's nice, isn't it?
Me: No. I need the court. And rules is rules. BOYS - come here - you're done
Bless them, they were young and keen (and not too genned up on the rules, neither were their parents seemingly......)
