GB doing not too bad if Harriet can get 2nd match

Harriet broken three times in the second set, and wins it 6-3. Backhand is looking particularly nice today. More errors from Birrell in that set helped.

Wowsers Mika! I've not been following her so much the last few months except the occasional results check. Loved seeing her play that final plate last year against Mimi but even after all that I was really surprised to see her selected. I figured it was just that maybe she was seen as someone with a higher potential top level. I think if so that was really proven right. Gibson has had some really good results herself in the US 1000s at Indian Wells and Miami with a last 8 and last 16 there and has been notes as a power player so it was really fun to see how Mika matched up with that.

I just watched the highlights youtu.be/jkvVoio4gwM but is the full match available anywhere free?

Just wonderful

(on Bet365 too - very good picture quality)

Harriet looking so on it

Super win

Mind you, Kim basically missed all her first serves in that last game - really poor - Stosur, some of this is on you)

I've bee watching on Bet365 for the last hour.

Well done Harriet, best I've seen her play for some time. It was Birrell who got tight in the end.

I watched it on the Tennis Channel via Amazon Prime. They didn't update their TV guide to reflect the tie was still going, so that might have confused people looking for it later on. You just had to watch the channel anyway even if it said it was now showing an ATP Challenger highlights.

Great job from Harriet. Birrell is always bearable and she was not good today. Harriet hit clean, attacked, moved the ball well. Birrell's second serve on match point was such a push I'm glad Harriet took the swing it deserved.

For me, Harriet always had a chance today and Mika was a long shot. However I think we have zero chance in the doubles so I would rest Harriet and play Jodie and Katie, so our singles girls are fresh.

According to tennis abstract, that is Mika's best win ever and only her second over a top 100 player. I'm going to have to find a replay.

Oh, I should have tried harder.  Anyway Bet365  was Ok.  Well done both girls, great result.

I had written Britain off, to go 2-0 up is a stunning outcome on day one. Well done Harriet on that win as well and well done to Anne and the coaching team for making the right decisions and getting the team to play like this.

As many know, I dont follow womens tennis as much as mens, but this has really caught my attention
