If Opelka is serving like that, its hard to compete. Chalk it off and move on.
Not really. That's why he got to two tiebreaks
Opelka only serves half the time
It's no big deal, I agree, but as B00thy says, Jack seemed a bit flat at the end, you know you're very likely to end up in a tiebreak with Reilly, so to lose it 7-0 is pretty disappointing
Coming back after a big break is so up and down though. Never a straight line - Jack has the talent and game to get there and move up quickly. And for some reason, Miami doesnt seem to suit him like IW does.
That's a different point, nothing to do with Opelka's serve
Very different point for sure! Just thinking of his disappointing tiebreak and outcome in the round
I can't see any reason for doubt that Jack has the game and ability to get back near the top of he game if he can stay fit and well over a relatively prolonged period.
In the short term though, unless he can pretty quickly find his clay feet and produce good results his ranking could be in for a big downturn. Coming to the clay from his successful early sping hard season last year, he scored 950 points ( out of his current 1710 total ) from a Monte Carlo L16, Madrid RU, Rome QF, and French Open L16.
Looking more than likely that he will be unseeded and a very dangerous floater for Wimbledon. But that could go badly for him.

Thats interesting - could he drop below cut off and need a wild card of things go very badly? tbh given his LONG absence, not being seeded wouldnt be a big surprise, none of it would take away from where he could or should be nearer the end of the season. For now its about defending his position as much as possible.

Even if Jack added absolutely nothing before the post Rome rankings on 18/05 ( which should be the rankings used for the Wimbledon MD ) he will still comfortably be on that entry list. 1710 - 950 = 760 points - currently equivalent to live ranked 72 ( his French Open 200 points come off after that date )
