Weeks 9 & 10 - ATP Masters 1000 - BNP Paribas Open - Indian Wells, CA, USA

Jack wins first set 6-1. A little closer than the score suggests. Francisco playing some loose shots at critical times. He looks really good physically.

Then gets broken in the first game of the second!

Bit shaky at the end but a first win over Cerundolo.

Very good to come back twice in the second set, the second time from 4-5*, and get it done in 2 sets.

Last 16 v Rinky is something youd generally take - talented player but not got the big shots or consistency to be higher than he is. Could beat Cam but Cam will be happy with that in the last 16.

And Jack v Djoko is one to look forwards to. Only played once, 4 1/2 years ago. Crazy.

Nice to hear Liam B on comms for the Draper match. Pretty insightful too. Given how this season is going I wonder if he might pivot more towards the broadcast side?

I guess a few weeks of guaranteed pay and training at NTC work well. Always think those still playing are quite insightful as they have their finger in the pulse a bit more.

I thought he was pretty good too. I also found it amusing that Naomi was commentating on the other match at the same time.

Liam I dont think is having a bad season- hes pushing up the rankings and is back top 300 (live 280) and has a chance at a push of top 200 again. Ok, he isnt what he was and commentary/punditry is clearly in his future but Id say hes still got some tennis to be played

He mentioned during the commentary that he was hoping to be back playing at IW next year too.

Sorry but resultswise Liam is having a very poor season.

He has one top 300 win (267), 2 top 400 wins and 3 top 500 wins and his exits in order have been to WRs 261, 318, 367, 367, 451, 829, and 527.

His Lyon Challenger 75 final last November seems such an outlier, yet he had a string of very good wins from qualifying right through, including vs a couple of top 200 players / close to top 100 ( 128 and 103 ) there. It would be very interesting to hear his thoughts on how that week was achieved and his form this year.

Regards his ranking, he started the year WR 303 and has added just 21 points, dropping 10, by 02/03, so much more about last year than this that he has moved up a little bit to live 280.

Sorry to not beat about the bush. I like Liam and it's sad to see. I do hope that whatever is to come for him goes well.
