Race for the Wimbledon wildcards 2026

Dan retiring after Wimbledon obviously means he will be at Wimbledon and not just qualies, surely? So that is one wildcard for Dan (otherwise they would have worded it differently?).

Or could that be a gross assumption?

I think a MD WC is a fair assumpion. Hopefully room for Dan plus the 5 GB 'locks'. Who are the foreign possibles again?

 Stan

monfils

dimitrov

berrettini

kyrgios

not sure of others?

Stan, I can see them giving to. Dimitrov? No. Kyrgios? Unsure - but I'd hope not. Berrettini? I could see since he's a former finalist who just made a big slam run. Monfils? Has never had a run in Wimbledon - only one 4th round from 15 attempts.

Kyrgios also a former finalist, of course, but...yes, I agree I would rather not. I used to be a big fan of his but have grown older and wiser.

Agree Stan and Berrettini would head the list of those above, but there are certainly 2 at least that probably could or will get a wildcard to add to 6 Brits, hopefully.

The 6 Brits should really be a pretty easy decision for the AELTC- so don't muck it up / throw in a curveball - given how clear in the rankings 5 of them are, also all top 150, also all already won matches on grass this year, plus Dan.

Thanks for the list and thoughts re the foreign players. I'm not bothered re 2 getting a MD WC ( nor bothered which 2 ) given the next British contenders, say Liam and Felix, have less strong cases.

They aren't in the MD by right for a reason, obviously injuries are the main culprit but that's what the PR is for. Otherwise assuming they've only just returned from injury, and the last I heard Berrettini was injured again, is it right to give them to players who might not even be able to make it through the whole of one match?

Happy with Stan and Monfils, can't see the justification for Berretini or Dimi personally and I'd rather not see Kyrgios on court ever again anywhere and I used to be a big fan.

Stan and Monfils are the two biggest general attractions of that list, but Berrettini as an ex finalist and Dimitrov and Kyrgios have better Wimbledon pedigree. But as it is Monfils and Wawrinka retiring this year, I imagine Wimbledon might go with them and add Evo into that mix.

looks like a retirement party should be planned!

Watching young Tarvet's progress at Ilkley - handily through to the QF.

I imagine he's already ( or should have ) got a Q WC in the bank. Now, if he went and won the title?

Ben Gusic-Wan has a place in the Wimbly wildcard playoffs, thanks to his win in the West Worthing BT event

I'm not sure if Evo would get the WC - he's barely played.

At the same time I can also see them saying sod it we can't pick between all these foreigners we'll just give 8 Brits ones again like last year.

Bu into Ilkley final after winning Birmingham. Just a comment.

So Bu did indeed take a second straight challenger title. I don't for one second think the LTA will consider him but only a few years ago, they would have definitely given him one for winning not one but two of the Challenger warm ups.

Obviously Brits doing better all round nowadays took that entry point away but, just in case, it is something that might go in the mix.

Yeah Bu has zero chance despite his sensational form. Would have been very different a decade ago.

But thankfully we have loads of players in the mix, and 5 absolute shoe-ins for the MDWCs (Jake, JPJ, Arthur, Toby, Billy).

Realistically, I feel it's between Dimitrov, Monfils, Wawrinka, Berrettini, Evans, Broady, Gill, Wendelken and Tarvet for the final three.

If I were making the call, I'd give the 3 to Broady, Tarvet and Wendelken (big fan of Felix with his rise and his RGQs exploits, but I think Harry has the better chance of making the most of a decent draw on the grass). But who will the AELTC go for...going to be a very intriguing few days
