Dan was kinda being Dan and these are not unique thoughts about doubles players in general. BuI I recalled thinking that Jamie came across pretty badly with personal remarks. And this link from 2019 ( so certainly not then Dan - the early years ) confirms to me these recollections.

Yes - Dan's are general comments about the sport (rather pointed comments, it's true, not discrete, not politically correct in tennis terms, but not personal)
Jamie's comments are personal and rather rude

I guess my point is that Evo was, to use a daily mail term, snubbed for a queens wildcard in his last appearance at a major British event and that felt a poor choice to me, regardless of what his performance might have been. He deserved the accolade. And Wimbledon should give him that accolade, it would be classless if they didnt.
Joining the dots, Im wondering if Jamie made the call on Evo. I may be disingenuous in saying that, but there you are. If it wasnt Jamie at the heart of that decision, i apologise.
I mean, its not like the WC went to total scrubs is it? JPJ, Toby and Arthur. Sorry, I'm not sure if I would've given Dan one at Queens either! But do hope he has a Wimbledon one.

No it didnt go to total scrubs at all, thats not really my point. The point is you should reward your old timers at the end of their career with a proper send off. Playing Queens in front of 8,000 and a show court send off at Wimbledon would have been appropriate for a guy who was in the top 50 for several years, top 20 as good as and won a 500 event, and the Davis Cup and played Olympics giving up ranking points to support Andy.
we dont appear to have many players that have done that in their career - take out Andy and Cam now, and there is no one who has had as good a career as Evo in modern British tennis (cant count Jack yet).
i dont begrudge Arthur or Jack or Toby theres, glad for them, just feel Evo was let down here.

But surely a send off at Wimbledon trumps Queens? Like...can't have it all. I don't feel Evo was let down.

Well, lets hope he gets one to Wimbledon at least. Fingers crossed.
I'm fairly confident Evo will have a MDWC as it will surely be his last Wimbledon. They did the same for James Ward.
Henry Searle is certain to have a QWC
