Fran is actually up two places at the moment in live rankings - she didn't play here last year, so has gained 10 points (nett 9)
Nonetheless, she is 120 in the race it seems, so not top 100 level
Injury issues !
Retired from her Auckland 250 QF with a groin issue, having beaten Emma Navarro then WR 15 in R1, initially unsure whether she would be able to compete she retired from the Aus Open R1 with a separate right leg gluteal issue after an early fall, out of action then until last week's Austin 250 when she lost in R1.
So this is her 4th tournament of the year, having had to retire in the first 2 and then recuperate after the Aus Open.
I was actually surprised that the poor girl is so high in the race.

Gosh, that is tough - sorry if I sounded a little harsh in my comments, hopefully she can move forwards again on the clay.
6-1, first set to Emma. Petchey giving a lot of support from the sidelines and a few coaching tips. Zakharova seems to have a big game but too many errors, troubled by the windy conditions. Emmas opponent takes a break, no doubt to try and talk herself into some better form and disrupt Emmas rhythm. Emma takes the opportunity to have a quick word with Petch.
