A straight sets loss 6-3 6-3 is pretty much what I expected. The first set bagel was a bonus. It all shows that Katie's level is much, much higher than her ranking suggests.

Good prospects. The desire is very much there and it seems to be going well with the new coach
Maia + lead 3-0 in the first set. They broke serve in the second game of the set and held their serves in the first and third games. Their opponents are due to serve in the fourth game of the set, attempting to win their first game of the set and the match.
I think that this is Maia's first WTA final. She's won titles at 125 level, and reached SF's at 250 level but this appears to be by far her best at 500 level.

Had just been checking Maia's history. She actually has had a WTA 250 final - Rouen, France in April 2024 ( with Naiktha ) but yes this is now her biggest final.
If she were to take the title here live rankings suggest that she would move to WR 54, taking out her CH 57 from 01/07/24 - an accumulation of a 12 month period that contained that Rouen 250 final and was bookended by a Wimbledon 2023 QF ( with Naiktha ) and an Eastbourne 500 SF 2024 ( with Harriet ).
That was a tough final and not too surprising they lost, but still an excellenr week and hopefully given them a lot of confidence and a good feel for what it'll be like playing the best every week.
