Week 8 - WTA500 - Merida, Mexico Hard

R1: Katie Boulter (GBR) WR75 [WC] v Beatriz Haddad Maia (BRA) WR66

They've met four times. Katie leads 3-1, but lost the last match in Ningbo in 2024

I watched the first set of Heather and was quite impressed considering the length of her layoff. Was struggling with doubles, quite a few foot faults in the set I saw, but when she got the first serve in it looked decent. I just checked the stats and it said 75% first serve points won for the match.

Great to see Heather back and back with a win.

Going by how long Heather seems to have been training for, going by her socials, the layoff was longer than needed but probably timed to get the protective ranking. Also sometimes being able to rest the body for a prolonged period without the weekly grind and travel is probably a good thing.

Oh Phew!!! It was actually quite windy and perhaps Guernsey girl had a bit of an advantage there. It's been a while since i stuck with watching a Heather match past my bedtime. Nostalgic.

Saw most of the 3rd and Heather played well, understandably a bit passive at times when trying to close it out, but got there well enough in the end.
Looked a bit windy in Merida. Looking forward to seeing how Hev gets on in R32
