Antons 5th ITF title and first since 2024. Feel like hes been around for ages but still only 24. Interesting to see if he makes any progress this year, didnt realise just how far hed fallen down the rankings
What has held him back? He seemed promising in 2020/21. I remember his run to the final qualifying round at Wimbledon where he narrowly lost in a 5 setter - and since he has never even broken the top 300.
Looking at his records, he seems to have peaks in October each year, half his finals hes played are in October. Probably means nothing, but just struck me!
I remember someone mentioning a while back that he was playing alongside doing a degree so wasnt 100% in on his tennis. I assume he has now finished his studies so hopefully he will give it a real crack this year and next, as he is certainly has the weapons to be a challenger level player.
All of Anton's 5 ITF singles titles to date have been achieved on hard courts.
4 of his 5 ITF finals from 2024 to date have been on hard courts, generally GB indoor ( including 2 titles ).
Yet through each of 2024 and 2025 he has chosen to play more tournaments on clay than any other surface, with very limited success on that surface
When he was first playing so much on clay, I wondered if it was for development. But it went on and on. I wonder if he maybe has a long term injury problem? - some folk talk about clay being easier on the body
