Sonay is heading home for some rest after 8 weeks on the road.
On the face of it a rather strange choice given she chose to compete here and then there was such a good chance that it would reach the stage that she just had to sign in to be a LL. Big tournament.
Unless say a concerning niggle it doesnt appear to make a lot of sense.
They were defending 120 points here, so a net drop of 110. But for these two weeks they are still up on last year (325+10 against 10+120)
There normally have been no mandatory points in women's doubles.
So last week's 215 points would replace their lowest counter of 81. And this week the 81 will come back in to replace last year's 120 points. Net up 95 points points for the 2 weeks.
Thanks Indi - I didn't check the non-counters but just compared with last year. Still creeping up the rankings, but a bit further to go to achieve that elusive #8 seeding. But they will soon have the 650 points from Indian Wells to defend .......
Emma's likely opponents in R1 and R2 have now both been replaced by LL. However if she wins those two matches Rybakina remains as a likely R3 opponent.

FIve lucky losers now in the main draw - and Hailey Baptiste retired. Sonay should have stuck around .........
I guess after so long away she just wanted to go home.
Understandable but she is in the wrong job then.
She is 50 ish in the world! Into all the grand slam main draws at the moment plus lots of big tournaments. I know it might be disappointing for us not to see her in as LL, but could be all sorts of reasons why she decided to come home. We just don't know as observers...bit of a niggle, tiredness, or illness, or a completely non tennis reason. Considering the number of players whose pathway is hampered by injury despite their ability I think the way Sonay manages her tournaments is working well. Certainly not in the wrong job!

She hinted on Insta she was looking at the US swing now and wanted to focus on that, with a good training block, after a little R and R.
