British Tennis Forum Player of the Month Vote - January 2026

First PoM vote of 2026.

Vote from the list below and please let us know when you vote, who you vote for and why - not obligatory of course!

Top 2 plus ties qualify for the 2026 Player of the Season vote. This year, we will have no play off votes, so if we tie for top place, it will be a draw.

vote will close Tuesday night at 9 pm precisely

Nominations:

1. Arthur Fery - for qualifying for the AO main draw! Beat WR127, Prizmic, in the final round and qualified without losing a set throughout the tournament. Went on to win his opening match in the main draw, beating 20th seed Cobolli in straight sets, and as a result will easily achieve a new career high, possibly moving into the top 150

2. Luca Pow - the 20 yo US college player reached the SFs of both the singles and doubles at his 'home' Winston-Salem M25 event. The following week, at the same venue, he beat the top seed, Aryan Shah WR 394, in R1. Raised his singles ranking from 956 to about 850. Continued his winning ways in college tennis, among these being his 80th singies college win for Wake Forest away to Tennessee before a further win for #1 Wake Forest away to #4 Texas.

3. Sofia Johnson - an unranked qualifier in the ITF W35 at Weston USA reached the main draw and took former world no 4 Bianca Andreescu (now WR 228) to 3 sets, losing the last 7-5

4. David Stevenson - two challenger doubles titles, the Nottingham 50 ( with Charles Broom ) and the Oeiras1 100 ( with Cleeve Harper ), plus he also made the Glasgow 50 and Oeiras2 75 SFs. With a total of 197 points from these 4 tournaments in the month, he has moved up from WR 139 to live 116.

5. Hannah Klugman - it doesn't very often happen and when it does, its worth celebrating. We have a world number one, and Hannah has achieved the junior girls number one for GB for the first time in many years since Laura Robson. Great achievement and hope it is the springboard to a successful 2026 and career ahead

6. Neal Skupski - playing AO without his usual partner Joe Salisbury because of unfortunate circumstances. But with partner Harrison has WON the doubles final, for his second grand slam mens doubles title and yet another grand slam with high British mens doubles achievements! With this title, Neal goes to world ranked Number One doubles player!

7. Luke Johnson - super run to reach the Aus Open doubles SF, partnering Jan Zielinski, beating the renowned 4th seeds Arevalo & Pavic in the QF. Takes him up to a CH 27.

8. Harriet Dart for winning the doubles and making the final at the W100 in the UAE. Good to see her winning matches again after a tough period last year

9. Anna McBride - won the womens singles and doubles titles, repeating her AO triumph from last season without losing a set in either of the events. World number one in the learning disability para tennis category she plays without a doubt

For me, the achievements of Hannah in becoming world number one and Anna in winning the AO title for her category of tennis deserve accolade. Although I nominated her, Hannah really achieved what she did over a year and January itself wasnt so strong. Although Im very tempted to vote for Anna, it is with regrets that I am going to vote for Neal.

What an achievement - only his second grand slam mens doubles title and back to world number one, and the first time outright on his own! Neal gets my vote

For most of the month I had planned to vote for Arthur. Then Neal won the doubles!
I need to sleep on such a momentous decision.....

We are fans of Neil Skupski, however I have to recognise just how hard Anna with worked over the last three weeks and how well she played in the final

I figured Neal would get plenty of votes so I've voted for Arthur.
