That really is a shocker! Thought after the United Cup he could push higher now looking unlikely.

Give him a bit of a chsnce. Yes, very bad looking loss but early days in the year and he did indeed play very well in the United Cup right at the start ( very far from a nightmare ). Now needs to produce such form in individual tournaments.

I was thinking purely of individual tournaments when I made the "nightmare start" comment.

Only my thoughts on if he can go higher than his CH which I doubted I'm not saying he will completely drop off... and I didn't say nightmare just a shocking result which I stand by.

My "nightmare" comment wasn't directed at you, Danny, but meant to reflect the fact that Billy (WR 121) was q15 at the AO, but apparently lost quite tamely (3 & 4) in QR1 to Rodesch (WR 209) when we were all presumably expecting better, & then, as the top seed in Oeiras, crashed out to the WR 764 in three sets.  His work rate cannot be faulted, but somehow he manages for whatever reason to come up short on these occasions.  It's disheartening to say the least.

Have to wonder if jet lag had anything to do with Billy's result.

Yes, possibly Bob ( though of course Billy did exit Aus Open Q early ), or just a very bad day at the office, or a combination. Let's hope for much better if he plays Oeiras 2 or wherever he does play next.

Anyway, prior to these two losses documented above, as I was saying, we had seen Billy perform very well at the United Cup with his win against Mochizuki WR 110 earning him 25 ranking points and just missing out on a further 35 points in losing in a final set TB to Tsitsipas WR 34. Quite an occasion too wiith a big audience and, while a team event, singles players were playing for ranking points.

It leaves him for the year so far up 9 net ranking points with his 25 United Cup points effectively replacing his 16 Aus Open FQR points from last year.
