This feels like Emma is saying Roig has changed her game too much and shes not happy? Has he tried to introduce variety or is he trying to take her back to how she wants to play?
At the end of the day, I just want to hit the ball to the corners and hard, she said. Im doing all this variety, and its not doing what I want it to do. I need to just work on playing in a way more similar to how I was playing when I was younger.
I always just changed direction, took the ball early, and went for it. I think I do have the ability to do many things on the court, but I feel like as Im learning all those skills, its like I need to stick to my guns a bit as well and work on that. For me, its pretty simple.
Some on this board may have noticed that Naomi Osaka made a grand entrance on court today in a costume inspired by a jelly fish. What you may not have clocked was Tim Hermans face when he first clapped eyes on it! I hope this link works it had me in stitches! www.instagram.com/reel/DTvXne_kZDo/
Ha, great expression! I am here for this sort of performance in future
I see a player called Sorana Cirstea has today complained about Osaka's self-motivation, 'come-on's, and was furious about the perceived lack of respect it showed, and lack of post-match apology.
Obviously this can not be the same Sorana Cirstea from the infamous GBR v ROU Fed Cup tie in April 2017, where Romanian coach, Ilie Nastatse screamed at the umpire and then Johanna Konta & Anne Keothavong, calling them both, erm, clucking twitches, and threatening them, causing Konta to need to leave the court in tears.
After which, this unrelated Sorana Cirstea, called Konta a cheat for leaving the court, whipped up hostility from the crowd such that the GBR team needed a protective cordon to leave after the tie, never apologised for her behaviour, and tripled down in post match press remarks in even viler fashion.
But, happily, it cannot be the same Sorana Cirstea, because, otherwise that would be the rankest hypocrisy, and far be it from me to accuse any player of such things.

To be honest I've usually got a fair amount of time for Sorana, though she can be quite spikey, and I admit I didn't recall the "cheat" bit of it.
What I did remember Sorana saying is that the remaining squad was left confused as to what was happening after her match with Jo was halted with Jo in tears, and as to if and when their match was going to resume, and that the remaining Romania squad were not really being informed.
I also recall Sorana recounting in the same conference how she is often called 'gypsy' by fans on tour, and suggested that the Brits need to toughen up. But I think she was referring to the fans not Nastase's disgraceful behaviour both during matches and to Koethavong at the draw. And unfortunately the communication to the Romanian team was really poor in a fluid situation.
Don't think any need for Sorana bashing today when it was Osaka who felt the need to apologise.
Osaka did not 'feel the need to apologise' - she simply apologised.
Sorana was out of order today, it's nothing to do with bashing her, she just was (imo)
And she was out of order at the tie as well - her rant about Jo Konta obviously being in the wrong because Jo had apologised - although I remember us discussing on this forum that it was difficult for non-nat8ve English speakers to realise how English speakers use 'sorry' - still didn't excuse the theatricals though
I notice that Iva Jovic who Mika beat on route to the 2024 US Open juniors title has reached the 4th round of the US Open beating Jasmine Paolini . I hope this is a case of the tortoise and the hare because Iva who is a year old than Mika has a live world ranking of 22 but in her most recent match Mika lost to a player outside the worlds top 600.

Although Jasmine was a bit under the weather during her match.
