What a pleasant surprise. Really didn't expect anything other than a loss, particularly after the 2nd set.

Tararudee hardly put a foot wrong in the opening set.
The second set is more even

Harriet goes down 0-3*

Gets back to 2-3*, misses two break points. The Thai is so passive, Harriet trying to make it happen but pulls the final two points of the game wide and it's *2-4

That might be it. Big release of nervous tension from her opponent there.

Harriet loses 6-3 in the third. Have to say, the Thai really wasn't doing very much at all in bits I saw, Harriet was the one being aggressive but couldn't always get the balance. Wasn't miles away from turning that around - but the commentators seemed to suggest Tararudee was just a terrible frontrunner all match - played great and then tightened up when she was well ahead.

I know someone will post a new thread, but just to say the Aussie Open draw is out.

Katie B has drawn number 10 seed Benicic, Sonay has drawn the Number 11 seed Kalinskaya, Fran will face a qualifier (not confirmed who as I type this) and Emma faces Sawangkaew, with a possible meeting of Emma and Sabalenka in the last 32.

I think of the Brits, only Fran will feel happy, and I guess if the qualifier ends up as Sloane Stephens, she would also rue her luck. All in all a lousy draw for the Brits I think.

Anyway I know someone will post a proper thread on this, so this is just to let everyone know that the draw is out.

Just to add, if Fran comes through her first round, she would probably face Number 12 seed Svitolina in Round 2 - so 3 of our Brits are likely to come up against the 10, 11 and 12 seeds in the first 2 rounds.

Kalinskya is ranked 33 in the world, she isn't the 11th seed  more like 31st.

Yes, her CH is 11.

Given the non seeds are bracketed to play seeds in one of the first two rounds, for making some sort of run, in these terms it's a decent result to face the 31st seed even if it's in R1.

Though playing the 31st seed was then going to bracket her against one of the top 8 seeds for R3 and as ( Emma ) luck would have it that's (2) Swiatek

Silly me -  posted this at 4 am just as I was about  to go to bed. A bit sleepy I think - should have just let others do the posting in the morning, but i was excited to see who the Brits got in the draws.
